New Delhi: There are talks of former Indian captain Virat Kohli retiring from Tests. If reports are to be believed, Virat has made up his mind to retire from red ball cricket. He has also informed the BCCI about this. However, the board does not want Virat to leave Tests yet. BCCI officials have asked Virat to think again on this. Virat has not yet taken a final decision on retirement, but he had hinted at retirement after the Australia tour.
Virat had spoken about retirement
After the Border Gavaskar Trophy in Australia, Virat Kohli had hinted that he would not play Tests for a long time. 36-year-old Virat Kohli, while speaking at the Royal Challengers Bangalore event, said, 'Maybe I may not have a chance to tour Australia again. So whatever happened before, I am fine with it now. To be honest, I don't know what I will do after retirement.'
Virat's Test career is strong
Virat Kohli played his first international match for India in 2008. However, he had to wait a long time for his Test debut. His Test debut was on the West Indies tour after the 2011 World Cup. Virat scored a century on the 2011-12 Australia tour and then never looked back. He got the captaincy of the team in 2014.
He has played 123 Tests for India so far. In this, Virat has 9230 runs at an average of 46.85. Among Indian batsmen, only Sachin Tendulkar, Rahul Dravid and Sunil Gavaskar have more runs than Virat in Tests. He has scored 30 centuries in his career. Virat, who has retired from T20 Internationals, can continue playing ODIs even if he leaves Tests. Team India captain Rohit Sharma also did something similar.
