TikTok's April 5 Deadline: Will 170 Million American Users Lose Access?

TikTok has got time till April 5 to sell its operations in America. TikTok was accused of being a threat to American national security. After this, a law was made and TikTok was asked to sell its business in America. If the company does not sell its American business, 17 crore users will be affected.

TikTok is once again in the news. The last date in America for the popular short video platform is near. TikTok's parent company ByteDance has to sell its operations in America by April 5. The current US President Donald Trump extended this deadline in January. Former President Joe Biden wanted to remove TikTok from America long ago, but Trump's order gave TikTok a chance to operate for a few more days. Now it seems that what Trump wanted has not happened. If TikTok does not sell its business in America, it will have to stop its services in the US.

17 crore American users will be affected

According to a CNN report, if no major development is seen before this Saturday, ByteDance will have to face a ban in the US. This will affect the 17 crore American users who are using TikTok. For many American citizens, it is a source of entertainment, and for many, it is also a means of earning. The good thing is that many American companies have shown interest in buying TikTok, but no deal has been done yet. President Trump himself has expressed his desire to save TikTok in America, but everything has to be done before April 5.

Why is TikTok in crisis in America?

Actually, last year a law was passed in America, according to which TikTok's parent company will have to sell its business in America. This was a long-standing demand of American lawmakers. They said that TikTok is a threat to America's national security. There was a fear that the Chinese company could tamper with the data of American users. After this, a law was made and Bytedance was asked to sell its business in America.

TikTok has faced a 14-hour ban

In January, TikTok had to face a 14-hour ban in the US. This happened because even then no deal could be reached on the sale of TikTok's American business. However, the new President Trump then gave Bytedance a chance and restored access for American users and the company was given time till April 5.

Who can buy TikTok in America

If TikTok's American business is sold, then America has many buyers. Many companies and people want to buy it. CNN has written the name of billionaire Frank McCourt in its report. Apart from him, the name of investor Kevin O'Leary, who has appeared in Shark Tank, is also mentioned. Arvind Srinivas, who hails from India and is the CEO of AI firm Perplexity, is also in the race. Elon Musk is also one of the contenders.
