Young Indian opener Vaibhav Suryavanshi wreaked havoc with his explosive batting in the high-voltage final of the tri-nation series against Sri Lanka A. He exacted revenge for the heated altercation with Sri Lankan players following the Super Over in the previous match by letting his bat do the talking in this title clash. Upon taking the field, the young batsman tore into the Sri Lankan bowling attack, completing his half-century in a mere 11 balls.
Vaibhav Suryavanshi's explosive onslaught
Vaibhav's rampage began in the third over of the innings when Mohammad Shiraz came on to bowl. In this over, Vaibhav disrupted Shiraz's line and length, hammering a total of 26 runs. He hit a four off the very first ball by playing a pull shot towards deep mid-wicket. He then caused a stir in the Sri Lankan camp by smashing consecutive sixes off the next two deliveries—one a magnificent hook shot to the leg side and the other a superb shot over deep extra cover. After a dot ball on the fourth delivery, he hit another six over extra cover on the fifth and concluded the over by smashing a powerful four to the right of mid-off on the final ball.
5 fours and 5 sixes in 11 balls
Dulaj Samuditha took over the bowling duties in the fourth over, but Vaibhav became even more aggressive. After hitting a four towards deep extra cover off the third ball, Vaibhav smashed a massive six straight over the bowler's head on the fourth delivery, racing to 44 runs off just 10 balls. On the fifth ball, Samudita attempted a slower delivery, but a well-set Vaibhav unleashed his full power to hit a six over the long-on boundary, bringing up a historic fifty in just 11 balls. Immediately after reaching his half-century, he struck another four towards deep backward point off the final ball of the over, pushing Sri Lanka firmly onto the back foot. In this remarkable spell, Vaibhav hit boundaries off 10 of his first 11 balls, comprising five fours and five sixes.
Heated exchange with Sri Lankan players
Vaibhav's fearless innings was not merely a display of explosive run-scoring; it was a resounding response to the wounds inflicted during the previous league match. Following a Super Over defeat in that game, Sri Lankan players had heavily sledged Vaibhav, leading to a heated on-field altercation between the two teams. By dismantling that very same Sri Lankan bowling attack in broad daylight on the grand stage of the final, Vaibhav proved that he believes in letting his bat do the talking rather than engaging in verbal battles.
