What Happens If IPL Qualifier Is Washed Out? Know Who Reaches Final Without Playing

Mullanpur: IPL 2025 is now in its final stage. Playoff matches will start from today. The first qualifier match will be between Punjab Kings and Royal Challengers Bangalore. This match will be held at Maharaja Yadavendra Singh International Cricket Stadium in Mullanpur. The eliminator will also be played on the same ground between Gujarat Titans and Mumbai Indians, but the biggest question is that if the qualifier or eliminator could not be held due to rain, then which team will go next.

Playoffs have been shifted due to rain

BCCI had already decided to hold the playoff matches of Kolkata and Hyderabad in Mullanpur and Ahmedabad due to rain. Mullanpur is near Chandigarh. This cricket stadium is about 10 kilometers away from Chandigarh city. A few days ago it was told that there could be rain with thunderstorm in Mullanpur on 29 and 30 May. But the latest update is that there is severe heat in Mullanpur. The temperature is likely to be around 35 degrees at the time of start of the match and there is no hope of rain.

Punjab will reach the final

Still, what will happen if the qualifier or eliminator match gets canceled due to rain? It has never happened in IPL so far that the qualifier or eliminator match has been canceled due to rain. There is no reserve day for qualifier and eliminator matches. If not a single ball could be bowled due to rain, then the team that is on top in the group round will go to the next round.

Mumbai will be out without playing

If the first qualifier is not held, Punjab Kings will reach the final. At the same time, RCB will have to play the second qualifier. The same rule will apply in the eliminator match as well. If the eliminator match is not held, then Mumbai Indians, who are at number four, will be out. Third-placed Gujarat Titans will get a place in the second qualifier.

The second qualifier and the final will be held at the Narendra Modi Stadium. If the second qualifier match to be held at the Narendra Modi Stadium is also cancelled due to rain, then the team at second place will reach the final. That means RCB will get a place in the final. There is a reserve day for the final match. If the final match is not held on both days due to rain, then the team at the top of the league will be declared the winner.
