With the latest upgrade, YouTube has given more producers access to its "Communities" feature, which enables them to interact with viewers on mobile devices. Separate from the standard comment section, the functionality establishes a specific area on channels for two-way communication where viewers and creators can post and engage. The Made by YouTube 2024 event was where it was first displayed. Subscribers can interact with channel owners directly, leave comments, and respond to posts.
YouTube's goal: Centralizing creator interaction
With this expansion, YouTube wants to establish itself as the leading platform for creator-fan interaction, reducing dependence on external platforms like Discord and Reddit. According to YouTube's official blog post, the decision has been taken after positive feedback from initial test groups.
How the new YouTube feature works
The platform provides creators with moderation tools to help them manage their communities. "Creators like @froggycrossing have already praised the feature, highlighting its ability to foster deeper connections with audiences and strengthen channel engagement," creator @froggycrossing said.
Only in producers' channels on the YouTube mobile app, does the feature function as a forum-like area. It enables authors to communicate with their audience and exchange posts. By giving authors control over who can post and participate, moderation tools aid in the management of discussions.
Rebranding and a new Community Hub
The Community Hub tool, which YouTube has launched, will assist in removing offensive material and preserving a constructive environment. Additionally, the Community tab will now be called "Posts," although its current functionality will not change.
