Zelenskyy criticises India over response to Putin drone attack remarks

Kyiv: Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has criticized India. On Tuesday, the Indian Prime Minister expressed concern over reports of a drone attack on Russian President Vladimir Putin's residence. Ukraine has denied the accusation, stating that it did not carry out any such attack. Meanwhile, the Ukrainian president has accused India of having a double standard. Zelenskyy said that some countries, including India, which are condemning the attack on Putin's residence, have never said anything about the attacks on our children.

According to a report by the Kyiv Independent, Zelenskyy said in an online press conference, "Honestly, it's confusing and bad that India, the UAE, and some other countries condemned our alleged drone attacks on Putin's residence, which never happened." He further added, "But where is their condemnation of the fact that for so long they (Russia) have been attacking our children and killing people? Honestly, I haven't heard this from India, nor from the UAE."

What did PM Modi say?

Russia claimed on December 29 that Ukraine had attempted to attack President Vladimir Putin's residence in the Novgorod region with 91 drones. Prime Minister Narendra Modi wrote in a post on X that he was "deeply concerned" by the reports of the attack targeting President Putin's residence. He further added, "Ongoing diplomatic efforts are the best way to end hostilities and achieve peace." He also urged all sides to refrain from taking steps that could undermine peace initiatives. Ukrainian Foreign Minister also issues a statement

Earlier, Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andriy Sybiha said that Kyiv was disappointed and concerned by the reactions of India, the UAE, and Pakistan. He also called the allegations baseless. In a post on X, Sybiha said, "Almost a day has passed, and Russia has still not provided any credible evidence of the alleged attack on Putin's residence. Nor will they. Because there is no such evidence. No such attack ever happened."

The Ukrainian Foreign Minister further added, "We were disappointed and concerned to see the statements from the Emirati, Indian, and Pakistani sides expressing concern about an attack that never happened." Ukrainian President Zelenskyy also rejected the drone attack claim and accused Russia of trying to derail peace talks.
