Pahalgam terror attack: According to the notification issued by the Commerce Ministry, a new provision has been added to the Foreign Trade Policy 2023, under which any kind of import or transit directly or indirectly from Pakistan has been completely banned till further orders.
The Government of India has banned the import of any kind of goods from Pakistan with immediate effect. This decision has been taken after the horrific terrorist attack in Pahalgam on 22 April, in which 26 people were killed. According to the notification issued by the Commerce Ministry, a new provision has been added to the Foreign Trade Policy 2023, under which any kind of import or transit directly or indirectly from Pakistan has been completely banned till further orders.
The Directorate General of Foreign Trade (DGFT) said that the ban was imposed keeping in mind national security and public interest. Any exemption from this ban would require approval from the Government of India.
The FTP adds a provision titled "Restrictions on Imports from Pakistan", stating, "The direct or indirect import or transit of all goods imported or exported from Pakistan, whether freely importable or otherwise permitted, shall remain prohibited with immediate effect until further orders."
In the wake of this horrific attack, India announced several diplomatic measures, including suspension of the SAARC Visa Exemption Scheme (SVES) for Pakistani nationals, expulsion of the Pakistani military attache, suspension of the Indus Water Treaty of 1960 and closure of the Integrated Check Post (ICP) at Attari. PM Modi's strong message
Earlier this week, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said at a high-level meeting with top defence officials that the armed forces have "complete freedom" to decide on the manner, target and timing of India's response to a terror attack.
