CBI Arrests Army Colonel Himanshu Bali in ₹50 Lakh Bribery Case

New Delhi: Taking major action, the CBI has arrested Colonel Himanshu Bali. He faces charges of accepting a bribe amounting to ₹50 lakh. According to information received by a news agency, the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has arrested Colonel Himanshu Bali of the Army Ordnance Corps, Eastern Command, Fort William (Kolkata).

Approval Granted to Substandard Products in Exchange for Money

It is pertinent to note that the CBI had previously registered a case against Colonel Himanshu—who is posted with the Army Ordnance Corps at the Kolkata-based Eastern Command—in connection with the ₹50 lakh bribery case. According to officials, the Colonel is accused of manipulating tender processes to favor a Kanpur-based company, approving substandard product samples, and facilitating the clearance of pending and inflated bills.

    Businessman Contacted for Bribe

In its FIR, the CBI stated that the Colonel had contacted an industrialist regarding the bribe, to which the businessman cited a lack of ready cash. Subsequently, the officer called the industrialist's driver and instructed him to deliver the bribe amount to one of his acquaintances. According to the CBI, the plan was to transfer the bribe amount of ₹50 lakh through the 'Hawala' channel.
