Mumbai: Ashwini Kumar created history while playing for Mumbai Indians. He made his Indian Premier League debut on 31 March against Kolkata Knight Riders. In this match, Hardik Pandya made three changes, in which Ashwini, Will Jacks and Vignesh Puthur were included in the team. Ashwini has made such a record for the first time in the history of IPL. He destroyed KKR's batting by taking four wickets in his first three overs.

23-year-old Ashwini has become the first Indian player to take four wickets on IPL debut. He performed brilliantly with figures of 4/24. Ashwin took the wickets of Ajinkya Rahane, Rinku Singh, Manish Pandey and Andre Russell. Due to his brilliant bowling, KKR's team was bundled out for just 116 runs. He dismissed Rahane on the very first ball. He became the third Mumbai player to take a wicket on the first ball on IPL debut after Ali Murtaza and Alzari Joseph.
Bought for Rs 30 lakh
Ashwani Kumar, who was born in Mohali, is a 23-year-old left-arm fast bowler. Mumbai Indians have bought him at a base price of Rs 30 lakh. Ashwin plays for Punjab in domestic cricket. He made his debut in first class cricket in December 2019. After this he also played in the other two formats. He made his List A debut in December 2021 and T20 in October 2022. Before making his IPL debut for Mumbai, Ashwin has played two first class matches, four List A and as many T20 matches.
