BJP May Get New National President by Next Month-End: Here's What’s Delaying the Decision

New Delhi: The discussion about when BJP will get a new national president has been going on for about a year. Now it is believed that within the next one to one and a half months, BJP will decide its new national president. According to party sources, the organization process will be completed in all the states in the next few weeks. After which the process of choosing the national president will also be done in about 20 days. This can happen in the end of July or the first week of August.

No consensus on a name yet

According to party sources, there is no consensus on a name regarding the national president yet. No discussion has been held on any one name even between the senior leaders of the party and the senior officials of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh. He said that the process of organizational elections kept getting delayed due to various reasons. Earlier, different state units were busy in the assembly elections and then after the terrorist attack in Pahalgam on April 22, all the focus shifted there. At present, BJP state presidents have not been decided in big states like UP, Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh, Karnataka, Telangana. Out of a total of 37 states and UTs, only two dozen state presidents have been appointed so far.

Consent of the Sangh will be important

In the Lok Sabha elections, BJP had set a target of winning 370 seats but could not even come close to the magic number of 272. After which it is believed that now the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh will also pay more attention to the organization. Also, whoever becomes the new president will be appointed only with the full consent of the Sangh. Many people who have been ministers in the central government have not got a place in the government this time. It is believed that they can be given the responsibility of the organization. Party leaders did not deny the possibility of any central minister becoming the national president. There are also strong discussions about cabinet reshuffle before the Bihar assembly elections.

Election process of the National President

According to the constitution of BJP, the process of electing the National President can begin only after organisational elections are completed in at least 50 percent of the states. When the National Council is formed, the National Election Officer decides the date of nomination, voting and counting for the election of the National President. If more than one candidate is nominated, then voting takes place. However, in the history of BJP till now, there has never been a situation of voting for the National President and the National President has been elected unopposed.
