New Delhi: The Indian government has sent a stern notice to the social media platform X. The notice concerns X's AI service, Grok. The government has received reports that Grok is being misused to create and disseminate objectionable and sexually explicit content targeting women.
The Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY) issued the notice. The ministry states that X is failing to fulfill its responsibilities under the Information Technology Act, 2000 and the IT Rules, 2021.
The ministry expressed deep concern that Grok's AI capabilities are being misused. Users are employing it to create synthetic (fake) images and videos. This content is offensive and violates the privacy and dignity of women. MeitY warned that such actions promote sexual harassment and undermine legal safeguards. The ministry clearly stated that such behavior will not be tolerated.
This matter is serious as it directly relates to the safety and respect of women. New technologies like AI must be used responsibly. The government wants to ensure that such technologies are not misused. X must respond to this notice and explain how they will address this problem. If they fail to comply with the regulations, the government may take further action. This incident highlights the critical importance of adhering to rules and regulations in the digital world.
