New Delhi: Chaos erupted at Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) on Thursday when the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) and left-wing student groups clashed during the Ravana Dahan procession. Shoes and slippers were thrown by both student groups. The reason for this uproar has now been revealed.
The Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) on Thursday alleged that left-wing student groups attacked the Durga idol immersion procession at Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU). Left-wing organizations accused the ABVP of using religion for political propaganda through the Ravana Dahan ceremony. However, there was no immediate response from the JNU administration on this issue.
Left-wing groups attacked the immersion procession at 7 p.m.: ABVP
The ABVP made a serious allegation, stating that left-wing groups, including the AISA, SFI, and DSF, launched a "violent attack" on the immersion procession near the Sabarmati T-point around 7 p.m. The ABVP claimed that several students were injured in the stone-pelting and verbal abuse.
JNU ABVP President Mayank Panchal said that this was not just an attack on a religious event, but a direct attack on the university's festive traditions and the faith of the students. The ABVP will not tolerate such cultural attacks at any cost.
The reason for the uproar has come to light.
In fact, the 10 heads of the Ravana effigy being burned had photos of several people, including Umar Khalid and Sharjeel Imam, accused in the Delhi riots. Upon seeing this, the students from the left-wing group became enraged and created a ruckus. However, the reason for the uproar has not yet been officially revealed.
ABVP JNU minister said - girl students were also attacked
Meanwhile, ABVP JNU minister Praveen Piyush alleged that stone pelting and even attacks on girl students during a sacred ritual like Durga immersion is condemnable and shameful and demanded strict action from the administration.
JNU Students Union Joint Secretary Vaibhav Meena also strongly condemned the incident, calling it a direct attack on the cultural harmony and brotherhood of JNU. However, the Left-affiliated student union rejected the allegations and instead accused the ABVP of using religion for political propaganda.
