Cricket Will Make You Cry"—Prithvi Shaw's Fall a Warning for Yashasvi Jaiswal, Says Basit Ali

Former Pakistan cricketer Basit Ali warned India’s Yashasvi Jaiswal to stay consistent with his performance, citing Prithvi Shaw’s decline as a reminder that cricket can be ruthless if form is lost.

Cricket Will Make You Cry"—Prithvi Shaw's Fall a Warning for Yashasvi Jaiswal, Says Basit Ali

There is no doubt that Yashasvi Jaiswal has been one of the best young batsmen in the world at present. He has scored runs against every bowler in the world in the last 2 years. Especially in Tests, he has been unbeatable. But a matter of slight concern for Jaiswal is that his form has been a bit bad in the last few months. Even in the current IPL season, only one fifty has come from his bat so far. In such a situation, Jaiswal has now received a warning.

    Pakistani cricketer expressed concern

Former Pakistani cricketer Basit Ali has expressed concern over the decline in form of young Indian opener Yashasvi Jaiswal. He has expressed apprehension that Jaiswal may also go astray like Prithvi Shaw's career. Basit advised Jaiswal to return to form soon. He believes that it may be too late. Jaiswal's performance in IPL 2025 has not been good. On the other hand, young players like Priyansh Arya and Sai Sudarshan are performing well.

    Struggling for a long time

Yashasvi Jaiswal, who was considered the future of Indian cricket in 2023, has been struggling since losing the Test series to Australia. He has scored just one half-century (67 runs against Sunrisers Hyderabad) in IPL 2025. The Rajasthan Royals opener was earlier known for his aggressive batting, but now he is struggling for runs. Basit Ali criticized Jaiswal, saying that he has lost his appetite for the game. He said on his YouTube channel, 'His stomach is full. Jaiswal is not focusing on cricket. This is my open message: cricket can make you cry a lot. Look at Prithvi Shaw. Love cricket and bring passion.'

While Jaiswal is trying to get his form back, India's young players are performing well. Punjab Kings' Priyansh Arya surprised everyone by scoring a century in 39 balls against Chennai Super Kings. Gujarat Titans' Sai Sudarshan is also playing consistently well. He scored 82 runs in 53 balls against Rajasthan Royals and has moved to second place in the Orange Cap race. He has scored 273 runs in five matches.

Jaiswal's poor form and the good performance of the young players have further strengthened Basit Ali's view that Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma's decision to retire from T20 Internationals after winning the 2024 T20 World Cup was right.

Should take a lesson from Prithvi Shaw

Basit Ali believes that Jaiswal should take a lesson from Prithvi Shaw. Prithvi Shaw was also considered very talented at one time, but he lost his way. Basit Ali wants Jaiswal not to waste his talent and return to form soon. The good performance of the young players has increased the competition in the team. This has also reduced the pressure on Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma. Now the team has many options and they can give opportunities to the young players.
