Bangkok: Prime Minister Narendra Modi has reached Bangkok on Thursday to attend the BIMSTEC summit. This conference will be held on Friday, in which the emerging challenges in the Bay of Bengal and ways to increase regional trade will be discussed. Apart from the BIMSTEC summit, PM Modi is also scheduled to meet the heads of states of some member countries. These also include countries whose current heads of state are openly engaged in anti-India activities. In such a situation, know which heads of states PM Modi will meet apart from the BIMSTEC conference.
Which leaders will PM Modi meet?
According to a report in The Print, Prime Minister Narendra Modi will hold a bilateral meeting with Muhammad Yunus, Chief Advisor to the Interim Government of Bangladesh, during the BIMSTEC summit on Friday. Apart from this, PM Modi can also meet Nepal Prime Minister KP Oli and Army Chief Senior General Min Aung Hlaing in Myanmar. However, India has not yet shared information about PM Modi's meeting with any of these three heads of state.
How is Mohammad Yunus anti-India?
PM Modi's bilateral meeting with Mohammad Yunus will be the first meeting between the two leaders. Nobel laureate Mohammad Yunus took power in Bangladesh in August 2024 after former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina was removed from office. Since then relations between India and Bangladesh have deteriorated. India is concerned about attacks against minorities in Bangladesh, especially Hindus, as well as several challenges regarding border fencing and water sharing. Not only this, Yunus has strengthened relations with Pakistan at the expense of India. Apart from this, Yunus also made a controversial statement about India after visiting China.
KP Sharma Oli is a pro-China leader
Apart from the bilateral meeting with Yunus, PM Modi is also going to meet Nepal Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli. This will be his second meeting with the Prime Minister of Nepal. PM Modi met Oli during the United Nations summit last September. Oli is under pressure due to pro-monarchy protests in Nepal. Oli has not yet visited India, but he visited China for four days in December 2024, where he met Chinese President Xi Jinping and other senior officials. Both Yunus and Oli have visited China before India, breaking tradition. Oli is considered an openly anti-India leader. During his former tenure, a controversial map of Nepal was released, which included areas of India.
Myanmar military junta is also a pawn of China
PM Modi is likely to have his third bilateral meeting with Senior General Min Aung Hlaing on Friday. The junta has been ruling the country since the coup in February 2021, due to which civil war has broken out in Myanmar. Due to this civil war, India's security concerns in the Northeast have increased. Apart from this, the junta is more inclined towards China. In such a situation, China's interference in Myanmar has increased, which is a matter of concern for India. China has even deployed a private army in Myanmar to protect its projects. Apart from this, India-supported projects in Myanmar have also been delayed during the junta's tenure.
