Don’t Equate Terrorists with Victims: Jaishankar’s Stern Message to UK on Terror Policy

New Delhi: British Foreign Minister David Lammy is on a visit to India a month after the FTA was agreed between Britain and India. This two-day visit, which is being undertaken with the aim of reviewing different aspects of the strategic partnership, is being considered very important from an economic point of view. During this, Jaishankar and Lammy held delegation-level talks at Hyderabad House in Delhi on Saturday. Jaishankar thanked Britain for its support in the fight against terrorism. Jaishankar gave a strong message to Pakistan on this occasion and said that India adopts a zero tolerance policy against terrorism. Hope our allies will understand this. He made it clear that India never believes in treating terror-mongers at par with victims.

Jaishankar described the FTA and Double Contribution Agreement signed between India and Britain on May 6 as a milestone. He said that this will not only help in increasing trade and investment but will also have a positive impact on the strategic aspects of bilateral relations. Jaishankar said that both the countries have also started a strategic export and technology cooperation dialogue. The Infrastructure Financial Framework between Britain and India can also ease the financial flow coming from Britain to India, which will contribute significantly to our infrastructure dialogue. It is worth noting that before this, Lammy had also visited Pakistan on May 17. Lammy had strongly condemned the Pahalgam attack during his visit to Pakistan. He had said that soon he will also visit India and will also talk about the elimination of terrorism.

Emphasis on economic relations

Lammy reached New Delhi on Saturday morning on a two-day visit. According to the statement of the British High Commission, Lammy's visit is also related to the progress of the migration partnership. Migration is one of the primary agendas of the British government. The implementation of the FTA between the two countries will open up avenues for employment and economic progress. This deal is expected to increase bilateral trade by 25 billion pounds every year. Lamy said that his visit to India was one of his first foreign visits as Foreign Minister. Referring to the trade deal, he said that the agreement is just a beginning. We are establishing an ambitious modern partnership with India.
