    FIH Hockey Pro League 2024-25: India Falls Short, Suffers 0-1 Defeat Against Spain

    The Indian women's hockey team suffered a 0-1 defeat in a thrilling match against Spain in the FIH Hockey Pro League 2024-25. The match was played at the Kalinga Hockey Stadium in Bhubaneswar on Wednesday.


    The Indian team, ranked ninth in the hockey rankings, did not score a single goal in the match, while captain Marta Segu (49') scored the only goal for Spain.


    The first, second and third quarters of the India vs Spain match remained goalless. Both teams tried their best to open their goal account, but they did not succeed in it.


    Spain started well in the first quarter with a brilliant game, but the Indian team also did not lag behind and displayed good defense. In this quarter, Spain also got two penalty corners, but the Indian goalkeeper foiled their attempts. India did not let Spain succeed in taking the lead due to its strong defense.


    At the same time, in the second quarter, India created opportunities to score goals, but the team failed to capitalize on those opportunities. But in this quarter, Spain maintained its possession of the ball and did not let its grip weaken.


    By the end of the first half, neither Spain nor India got success.


    The third quarter also remained goalless. In this quarter also, the visiting team continued its aggressive game. Spain weakened the game of the Indian team and continuously got penalty corners. But did not succeed in scoring a single goal. At the same time, the Indian team kept looking for opportunities, but during this time the team could not earn a single penalty corner.


    In the fourth quarter, Spain opened its account and made the score 1-0. Captain Marta Segu took the lead by scoring a field goal in the 49th minute. At the same time, the Indian women's team had to struggle a lot to create opportunities. However, in the last moments of the match, India got a penalty corner but could not score a goal. With this, Spain won the match 1-0.


    Earlier in the match held on Tuesday, Spain defeated India 4-3.


    Now the Indian women's hockey team will play its next match against Germany on Friday, 21 February in Bhubaneswar.
