New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who arrived on a visit to the West African country of Ghana, has been honored with Ghana's highest honor. Ghana's President John Mahama himself honored him with the country's highest civilian honor, 'The Officer of the Order of the Star of Ghana'.
PM Modi thanked the President of Ghana for this honor and called it a 'matter of immense pride'. During his visit, PM Modi agreed with Ghana's President Mahama to elevate bilateral relations to a comprehensive partnership. The two countries decided to increase cooperation in areas such as defense, security, skill development and agriculture.
A matter of great pride and honor - PM Modi
PM Modi said that he accepts this honor on behalf of 1.4 billion Indians. He dedicated it to the youth of both countries. PM Modi said that it is a matter of great pride and honour for me that I have received the highest honour of Ghana. I express my deep gratitude to President Mahama, the Government of Ghana and the people of Ghana. I humbly accept this honour on behalf of 1.4 billion Indians.
Agreement on increasing security and cooperation
Let us tell you that this visit of PM Modi was the first visit of an Indian Prime Minister to Ghana in 30 years. Both the leaders agreed to increase cooperation in defence and security. India will set up a skill development centre for vocational education in Ghana and will support Ghana's 'Feed Ghana' programme. PM Modi said that today we have decided to double the ITEC and ICCR scholarships for Ghana.
