Hindu Leader Abducted and Beaten to Death in Bangladesh — Atrocities Rise Under Yunus Rule

Dhaka: Violence against Hindu minorities in Bangladesh is not stopping. Now a prominent leader of the Hindu community was kidnapped from home in Dinajpur district of northern Bangladesh and brutally beaten to death. This information has been given in Bangladesh media outlets. The 'Daily Star' newspaper quoted police and family as saying that the body of Bhabesh Chandra Roy, a resident of Basudebpur village in Dinajpur, about 330 km northwest of Dhaka, was recovered on Thursday. According to local media reports, Bhabesh Chandra was a prominent leader of the Hindu community in the area, who was also the vice-president of the Biral unit of Bangladesh Puja Udyapan Parishad.

    Hindu leader abducted from home

Roy's wife Shantana told 'The Daily Star' that she (Roy) received a phone call at around 4:30 pm. She (Shantana) claimed that the criminals had made this call to confirm his presence at home. About 30 minutes later, four men came on two motorcycles and allegedly abducted Bhabesh from the premises. It was reported that Roy was taken to Narabari village, where he was brutally beaten up. Several eyewitnesses also saw the attackers abducting Bhabesh and taking him away.

Attackers left outside the house after beating

According to the report, the attackers later brought Bhabesh in a van and left him outside his house. He was immediately taken to the Biral Upazila Health Complex. He was then taken to Dinajpur Medical College Hospital, where doctors declared him dead. The officer in charge of Biral police station said that the police are working to identify and arrest the suspects.

Violence against Hindus continues in Bangladesh

Mohammad Yunus' government has failed to stop incidents of violence against the Hindu community in Bangladesh. Ain O Salish Kendra (AsK), a Dhaka-based human rights organization, reported in its report last month that a total of 147 incidents of vandalism have been reported in houses, temples and business establishments of the Hindu community across Bangladesh. In these incidents, about 408 houses were vandalized, including 36 cases of arson. Apart from this, 113 incidents of vandalism in business establishments of the minority community, 32 incidents of attack on temples and mosques of the Ahmadiyya sect and 92 incidents of breaking idols in 92 temples have been reported.

In September 2024, the country's leading Bengali daily Pratham Alo reported that after the fall of the Awami League government, there have been many incidents of attacks on minority communities, especially the Hindu community, across the country. Homes, business establishments and places of worship belonging to Hindus are still being attacked in many areas.
