"I Should Have Slapped Him" – Shashank Singh Breaks Silence on Clash with Shreyas Iyer

New Delhi: In IPL 2025, Punjab Kings batsman Shashank Singh was scolded a lot by captain Shreyas Iyer after Qualifier 2 against Mumbai Indians. Shashank was run out at a crucial juncture of the match, due to which Shreyas was very angry. Although Shreyas led the team to victory, he did not like Shashank's carelessness at all. After the match, Shreyas scolded Shashank a lot and even asked him not to show his face. The Punjab Kings captain also used some abusive words.

    Shashank Singh admitted his mistake

Accepting his mistake, Shashank told that even his father did not talk to him till he lost to RCB in the final. He also praised Shreyas Iyer's captaincy. During an important match against Mumbai Indians in Qualifier 2 of IPL 2025, Punjab Kings batsman Shashank Singh made a mistake. He got run out. Due to this, the team captain Shreyas Iyer got very angry with him. Shreyas scolded Shashank on the field itself and also said some harsh things to him.

Shashank admitted his mistake and said that he should have got such a response. He praised Shreyas Iyer's captaincy and said that he is one of the best captains in the world at present. However, Punjab Kings had to face defeat against RCB in the final match. Talking to Indian Express, Shashank Singh said that he holds himself responsible for his mistake. He told that Shreyas Iyer scolded him a lot and even said that he should not even show his face. Shashank said, 'I had to hear this, Iyer should have slapped me, my father also did not talk to me till the final. I was very careless, like walking on the beach, while I should have been in the garden. It was a very delicate time, Shreyas did not expect this from me, but later he took me to dinner.'

    Shashank's performance was excellent

Shashank Singh was the second highest run-scorer for Punjab Kings in IPL 2025. He scored 341 runs at a strike rate of 153. He also praised Shreyas Iyer's captaincy. He said that there is no better captain than Shreyas. Shashank said, 'According to what I have heard and seen from others, there is no better captain than him in today's time. He lets us play freely and treats everyone equally. No one will say that Shreyas has attitude.'

Shashank further said, 'The young players in the dressing room consider him a 'chill guy'. Shreyas is the only captain who has told us that if anyone has any suggestion during the game, he can come and tell him. If he feels that it is the right advice, then he will accept it. This happens very rarely.'

Punjab Kings lost against RCB in the final of IPL 2025. Shashank Singh played an unbeaten innings of 61 runs in 30 balls, which included 3 fours and 6 sixes. But his efforts went in vain as Rajat Patidar's team won the match by 6 runs. Punjab Kings needed 42 runs in the last two overs.
