"I Wasn't Allowed to Use the Lift" – Delhi Man’s Day as a Delivery Agent Exposes Class Divide

A man from Delhi decided to quit his job for a day and become a delivery agent. Sharing his experience on social media, he said that in many societies he was not even allowed to use the main lift.

The job of a delivery agent is full of challenges. Many of us sitting in AC rooms can hardly imagine this. Strong sunlight, dusty roads, heavy traffic and delivery of every order on time. These people work hard day and night amidst all these difficulties.

To understand these challenges closely, a man from Delhi took a unique step. He decided to become a delivery man himself for a day, so that he could experience for himself what problems delivery agents have to face on the ground.

Untouchability is not just limited to caste

Delhi resident Salman Saleem, who is the creative head of a company, decided to leave his comfortable desk job for a day and become a Blinkit delivery agent.

When Salman started the delivery job, he had to deliver orders fighting heat, dust and traffic. But the real problem he faced was people's behavior more than the weather. He realized that delivery people are still discriminated against in society and this is not just on the basis of caste, but also on the basis of work and clothing.

Salman told that in many housing societies he was not allowed to use the main lift. He was asked to climb the stairs or use the service lift.

He said, 'The delivery person is also a human being. His clothes, bike or app do not reduce his respect. Everyone should get respect, no matter what work he does.' Salman also appealed to companies to spread awareness about the discrimination against their delivery agents.

    People also expressed grief

Thousands of people appreciated Salman's post on social media and many users also shared their experiences by commenting.

Someone wrote, 'This discrimination is now happening on the basis of class. Earlier it was caste, now it is profession.' Another user said, 'It is very sad to see such behavior. People who provide us facilities should not be treated like this.'
