ICC Ranking Controversy: Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli Dropped—System Faces Blame

New Delhi: Indian cricket team's legendary batsmen Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma are once again in the news. These two Indian players are being discussed regarding the ICC ODI rankings. On Wednesday, the ICC updated its ODI rankings, in which Virat and Rohit's names are not there. Even these two legendary players are not included in the top-100.

As soon as the fans' eyes went to the ranking list, there was an uproar in the cricket world. Along with this, speculations also started about Virat and Rohit whether they are going to retire from ODIs as well. Because in recent times, there has been a lot of talk about Virat and Rohit's ODI future. Virat and Rohit have already retired from Tests and T20s. In such a situation, they are actively available to play only in the ODI format.

Virat and Rohit in top-10 in rankings

Before this incident, i.e. before the new rankings were updated, Rohit Sharma was in second place and Virat Kohli was in fourth place. Both these players had been maintaining their place in the top-10 for a long time. After suddenly falling out of the top 100, fans were forced to think whether both of them have retired from the ODI format. However, there has been no official clarification from the ICC on this.

    ICC ODI Rankings

According to media reports, it is being said that this could also be a technical glitch. Because according to ICC rules, any player is removed from the ranking only when he has not played any ODI match for 1 year or more, or that player has announced retirement. Talking about Rohit and Kohli, both of them participated in the Champions Trophy in March this year.

    Shubman and Iyer benefited

On the other hand, the surprising thing is that a player like Babar Azam of Pakistan, who recently flopped badly in the ODI series on the West Indies tour, is ranked 2. This is the reason why the possibility of a technical mistake is being told. On the other hand, Team India's Test captain Shubman Gill has benefited from this whole matter. Shubman Gill has now reached the first position in the ranking. Apart from this, Shreyas Iyer has now moved from 8th to 6th position with a gain of 2 places.
