IIM Calcutta Student Bags ₹7 Lakh Internship, Sparks Online Buzz on 'Power of Degree'

A post is becoming increasingly viral on the internet these days, in which a student of IIM Calcutta gets a stipend of Rs 3.5 lakh every month for summer internship. This news has sparked a debate on social media about the value of degree.

Just a few days ago, a post of a topper of Delhi University went viral, in which she was seen saying that she has more than 50 certificates and more than 10 medals, but still she is having trouble finding an internship.

This post of hers had sparked a debate among the students whether degree really matters. This matter had not even cooled down when recently a story came to light which has sparked another debate on social media. This story is of a student studying in IIM Calcutta, who is getting a stipend of Rs 3.5 lakh every month for summer internship.

    Is a degree still necessary?

This information was shared by Sakshi Jain, founder of a Mumbai-based branding agency, in her LinkedIn post. She wrote that she recently met a friend of hers, who is currently doing an internship in Mumbai. When she came to know that her friend was getting a total of Rs 7 lakh for just two months of internship, she was shocked.

Sakshi raised a question in her post, 'In today's digital era, when people say that degrees do not matter, is it really so?'

She herself admitted that she also used to think the same earlier, but now she feels that a degree from a good institute can still open many big doors.

Met a friend from IIM Calcutta yesterday. She’s interning in Mumbai.

    Getting paid 3.5L per month🫠

And it kinda hit me- 7 lakhs in 2 months?

Maybe degrees do hold some weight after all😳
