India-Africa Summit to host leaders from 10 nations, focus on cooperation

New Delhi: The 4th India-Africa Summit is scheduled to take place this month. This meeting is being convened after a hiatus of nearly a decade. Officials stated that the agenda includes official deliberations, ministerial-level meetings, and business dialogues, alongside a gathering of India-Africa think tanks.

'Big Cat Alliance' Event Also on the Cards

These meetings will culminate on May 31st with the main summit, in which several African leaders are expected to participate. This will be followed by the 'Big Cat Alliance' summit; according to *The Economic Times*, approximately 10 African nations are expected to attend this event. According to a senior official, this summit—along with its associated events—will highlight India's unwavering commitment to Africa, with a particular emphasis on foundational principles.

Cooperation Between India and Africa

The theme for this year's summit is "IA-SPRINT: India-Africa Strategic Partnership for Innovation, Resilience, and Inclusive Transformation," a theme that reflects the comprehensive scope of India-Africa relations. Cooperation with the African continent has been steadily expanding. Africa now stands as the second-largest recipient of India's foreign development partnership assistance.

Indian Companies Make Their Mark

New Delhi has extended over 190 'Lines of Credit' (LoCs) to 41 African nations, totaling more than $10 billion in value; meanwhile, 20 projects worth $4.5 billion have already been successfully completed. These projects span critical sectors such as power generation, water supply, agriculture, transportation, rural electrification, and digital connectivity. Indian companies have also significantly expanded their presence within Africa's agricultural sector, thereby fostering the adoption of mechanization, value addition, and the processing of agro-based products. Notably, Minister of State for External Affairs Kirti Vardhan Singh met with a delegation from the African Union (AU) Commission on Friday to discuss preparations for the India-Africa Forum Summit. This delegation had arrived in India led by Willy Nyamitwe—the Chairperson of the AU Permanent Representatives Committee and Burundi's Ambassador to India.
