New Delhi: Indian Coast Guard Director General Parmesh Sivamani inaugurated a new dedicated jetty at Vizhinjam port in Kerala. This 76.7 meter long state-of-the-art berth will ensure quick deployment and return of Indian Coast Guard ships. This jetty will increase the readiness of operations like coastal surveillance, search and rescue, anti-smuggling operations and fisheries protection.

Why is this jetty important

According to the Ministry of Defense, this jetty is strategically located just 10 nautical miles from international shipping lanes. It is near the Vizhinjam International Transshipment Deepwater Port, due to which it will play an important role in the security of India's south-western coast. On this occasion, Commander of Indian Coast Guard Region (West), Inspector General Bhishma Sharma, Vizhinjam International Sea-Port Limited, Government of Kerala, Kerala Maritime Board, State Police, Port Authority, Indian Army, Adani Ports Pvt. Ltd. and senior officials of Fisheries Department were also present.

Navy will get first anti-submarine warfare - shallow water craft

Director General Parmesh Sivamani described this new facility as an important step towards strengthening the coastal security structure. He termed it a milestone towards ensuring quick response capability in this area. India's power at sea is continuously increasing. While on one hand the Indian Coast Guard has got the facility of this new jetty, on the other hand the Indian Navy is going to get its first anti-submarine warfare - shallow water craft (warship).

'INS Arnala' will be inducted into the Navy on this day

This naval warship 'INS Arnala' will be formally inducted into the Navy on June 18 at the Naval Dockyard in Visakhapatnam. This historic ceremony will be held under the chairmanship of Chief of Defense Staff, General Anil Chauhan. According to the Ministry of Defense, 'INS Arnala' is a 77-meter long warship powered by a diesel engine-waterjet combination. Powered by this special technology, it is the largest warship of the Indian Navy.

India's position will be further strengthened in the sea

The ship has been designed for underwater surveillance, search and rescue operations and low intensity maritime operations (LIMO). This sea ship is capable of conducting anti-submarine warfare operations in coastal waters. It is also equipped with advanced mine laying capability. The induction of this anti-submarine warfare shallow water craft vessel into the Navy will enhance the shallow water anti-submarine warfare capability of the Indian Navy.

Know the special features of the warship

This warship weighing 1490 tonnes is powered by a diesel engine-waterjet combination. This makes it the largest Indian warship powered by this technology. More than 80 percent indigenous material has been used in the construction of this warship.
