Indians Stranded in Panama: Safe and Assisted, Says Foreign Ministry

    Panama City.

Panama government has informed India about the safe arrival of an Indian group deported from America in Panama. The 'Indian Mission' present in Panama is working with the local government to ensure the well-being of the deportees. The Indian Embassy located in Panama, Costa Rica, and Nicaragua shared this information on the social media platform 'X' on Thursday. However, the number of Indians who reached Panama was not mentioned in it.

This group is part of the 299 immigrants who have been sent to Panama by the US government. Indian deportees reached Panama on three flights after the consent of President Jose Raul Mulino. Mulino had agreed that Panama would play the role of a 'bridge' for the deportees. The Trump administration has planned to deport millions of people who entered the US illegally.

The Indian Embassy in Panama, Nicaragua, and Costa Rica posted on the social media platform 'X', 'Panama authorities' have informed us that a group of Indian nationals from the US have reached Panama. The post said, 'They are safe and have been accommodated in a hotel equipped with all the necessary facilities. We are working with the Panama government to ensure their well-being.'

Earlier, a total of 332 Indians have been sent to India in three batches from the US. This deportation has taken place amid the Trump administration's increasing action against illegal immigrants. Out of a total of 299 illegal immigrants who came to Panama, only 171 have agreed to return to their native countries. The 98 deportees who refused to return to their countries have been sent to a camp in Panama's Darien province. Costa Rica is the second country that has agreed to act as a 'bridge' to bring back illegal immigrants to the US.
