New Delhi: Iran has appealed to India to put pressure on Israel. Iran's Deputy Ambassador to India Mohammad Javad Hussaini has appealed to New Delhi to openly condemn Israel and put pressure on it. He also questioned the role of IAEA and expressed hope from Pakistan that it will support Iran against Israel. He has also warned about Iran's secret capabilities.
Mohammad Javad Hussaini said that India is a big and peace-loving country. It is also the voice of the global south. Therefore, India should come forward to criticize Israel. He said that if Israel had been condemned at the time of its attacks against Hamas in October, it would not have dared to attack a country like Iran. Hussaini also questioned the impartiality of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA). He said that the IAEA had earlier said that no military nuclear activity was taking place in Iran. Nevertheless, the IAEA sided with Israel and supported military action against Iran. This raises questions about the credibility of the IAEA.
Hussaini clearly said that nuclear weapons have no place in Iran's defense policy. Iran does not need them for its security. He said, "Nuclear weapons are not part of our defense policy. We can protect ourselves, we do not need nuclear weapons." Hussaini also termed as false the allegations that Iran is increasing uranium for weapons. He said that these allegations are an attempt to fulfill a specific purpose. He also said that now people are openly talking about regime change, which seems to be their real motive.
According to a tweet by ANI, Mohammad Jawad Hussaini said, "... nuclear weapons have no place in our defence strategy. We can defend ourselves. We don't need nuclear weapons. All these allegations (that Iran is enriching uranium to make weapons)..." A journalist asked Hussaini if the US would use Pakistani soil after the Pakistani army chief's visit to the US. To this, Hussaini hoped that Pakistan would not be involved in any such move and would support Iran against Israeli attacks.
This statement of Iran's Deputy Ambassador has come at a time when tensions are rising between Israel and Iran. Israel had attacked the Iranian embassy in Syria, in response to which Iran fired missiles at Israel. After these incidents, the risk of war between the two countries has increased. Hussaini's statement is a challenge for India. India maintains good relations with both Israel and Iran. In such a situation, it will be difficult for India to decide whom to support. However, Hussaini has appealed to India to condemn and put pressure on Israel.
