Kendriya Vidyalaya Teacher Faces Backlash Over ‘Biharis Lack Civic Sense’ Remark, Leaves Bihar Amid Controversy

Patna: Kendriya Vidyalaya teacher Deepali Shah left the state after being embroiled in controversies over her statement in Bihar. In a viral video, she had said controversial things about Bihar and its people, after which uproar broke out. There was a stir in the political corridors as well and the police started investigation.

    What was the whole matter?

A video of Deepali Shah, who was earlier posted in Kendriya Vidyalaya in Jehanabad district of Bihar, went viral on social media, in which she is seen making objectionable comments on Bihar and its people.

In the video, Deepali is seen saying -

    • "Biharis have absolutely no civic sense. The day Bihar is removed from India, the country will progress."

    • Not only this, she also held Bihar responsible for the poor condition of Indian Railways.

What action was taken when the uproar increased?

After this statement, the whole of Bihar got enraged. On social media, people started demanding action against Deepali. When the matter heated up, Lok Janshakti Party (Ram Vilas) MP Shambhavi Chaudhary filed a complaint against the teacher. After this, the Kendriya Vidyalaya Sangathan (KVS) immediately suspended her.

Initially, she was transferred to a school in Masrakh in Saran district, but later a suspension order was issued.

    Police action and investigation

As the controversy grew, the police started investigating the matter. A complaint was filed against the teacher at Kako police station in Jehanabad and the cyber cell was added to the investigation.

Jehanabad Superintendent of Police (SP) Arvind Pratap Singh said that the teacher was called for questioning, but she left Bihar. He said that the cyber cell is investigating whether the video is real or edited.

The teacher was angry with her posting in Bihar

In this video, Deepali was also expressing her displeasure over her posting in Bihar. She said -

"I don't understand why I was posted in a place like Bihar? My friends are posted in cities like Darjeeling, Silchar and Bengaluru, and I was sent to Bihar. I was even ready to go to Ladakh, but did not want to come here."

This statement of hers has angered the people of Bihar. People say that if she had so much trouble teaching while living in Bihar, then why was she doing a government job?

    Reason for leaving Bihar?

According to sources, Deepali Shah got herself transferred from Bihar. She cited security reasons behind this, but many people believe that she left the state to avoid police investigation.

    Political and social reaction

This matter also created a stir in politics. Many leaders called Deepali Shah's statement insulting and demanded strict action on it.

People reminded of the glorious history of Bihar and said that it is Bihar which has given the most IAS-IPS to the country, the country's first President Rajendra Prasad was also from Bihar, and historical heritage like Nalanda University is also from here.

    What will happen next?

Although Deepali has left Bihar, the investigation against her will continue. The police is trying to find out if legal action can be taken against her.

This matter also raises the question that how can government employees have such a negative attitude towards a state? Shouldn't teachers and officials be given any training to make them sensitive towards different parts of the country before going into a government job?

This matter is not limited to the statement of just one teacher, but it reflects a larger thinking, which promotes regional discrimination. Now it remains to be seen what action the government and administration take on this?
