Mathura Police arrest ₹25,000 reward cybercrime accused after brief encounter

Mathura: Under the ongoing campaign against cybercriminals in Mathura, Uttar Pradesh, the Govardhan police and SOG team have achieved a major success. During a police encounter early Tuesday morning, Shahid, an interstate cybercriminal with a 25,000 rupee reward on his head, was arrested. The accused was shot in the leg during the police's retaliatory firing, while his accomplice managed to escape under the cover of darkness.

According to the police spokesperson, a joint team of SOG Mathura and Govardhan police station was checking suspicious vehicles near Sakarwa bypass. They received information that the wanted cybercriminal Shahid would be passing through the area on a motorcycle with an accomplice. Shortly after, when the police tried to stop the suspects, the accused opened fire on the police team with the intention of killing them.

    Shahid's Accomplice Manages to Escape

In self-defense, the police returned fire, and the accused Shahid (26 years old), a resident of Devseras, was injured in the leg and fell. However, his accomplice, while firing at the police, managed to escape by taking advantage of the bushes and darkness. The injured criminal has been admitted to a nearby hospital for treatment.

Large Quantity of Illegal Weapons and Vehicle Recovered

Police recovered a numberless Splendor motorcycle from the accused. In addition, an illegal .315 bore pistol, two live cartridges, and two spent cartridges were recovered from him.

    Wanted in 15 Serious Cases

The arrested accused Shahid is a notorious interstate criminal. He has a total of 15 criminal cases registered against him in various police stations of Mathura (Govardhan, Barsana, Chhata, Kosi Kalan), as well as in Bhiwani district of Haryana, including charges of fraud (420), attempt to murder (307), robbery, and offenses under the NDPS Act. He had been wanted for a long time in connection with cyber fraud and other crimes, which led the SSP of Mathura to announce a reward of Rs. 25,000 for his capture.
