New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi begins a two-day visit to Sikkim today, during which he will attend the closing ceremony of the state's 50th formation anniversary celebrations and unveil several development projects worth over ₹4,000 crore. The Prime Minister is scheduled to arrive in Gangtok on Monday at approximately 3:00 PM. On April 28, he is scheduled to visit the Orchidarium in Gangtok. This facility has been developed as a world-class 'Orchid Experience Centre' to showcase the state's rich ecology and floral heritage.
Why is PM Modi visiting Sikkim?
During his two-day visit to Sikkim, PM Modi will attend the closing ceremony of the Golden Jubilee celebrations at Paljor Stadium on Tuesday morning, around 10:00 AM.
Here, the Prime Minister will inaugurate projects spanning various sectors, including infrastructure, connectivity, healthcare, education, power, urban development, environment, tourism, and agriculture.
On this occasion, PM Modi will launch several projects and lay the foundation stones for others. He will also address a public gathering.
- In the healthcare sector, the Prime Minister will lay the foundation stone for a 100-bed Ayurveda hospital at Yangang in the Namchi district.
- PM Modi will inaugurate a 30-bed integrated 'Sowa Rigpa' hospital at NIT Deorali.
- In the field of education, the Prime Minister will inaugurate the permanent campus of Sikkim University at Yangang.
- He will dedicate the administrative building of the Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose University of Excellence at Chakung.
- He will also inaugurate the Helen Lepcha Medical College at Sochakgang and the Dentam Professional College in the Gyalshing district. Additionally, he will inaugurate model residential schools in Gyathang and a new model degree college in Mangshila.
- A monastic hostel-cum-classroom facility will also be inaugurated at Bumtar Gompa.
- The Prime Minister will also lay the foundation stone for 'double-lane steel arch bridges'.
- Furthermore, Prime Minister Modi will launch IT-enabled infrastructure projects across 160 schools.
- To boost connectivity, PM Modi will lay the foundation stones for two 'double-lane steel arch bridges' over the Teesta River at Sirwani and Lower Samdong, and will inaugurate the road connecting Bardang to Namchi via Kichudumra.
- In the power sector, he will inaugurate the renovation of the transmission and distribution network in Gangtok.
Laying the Foundation Stone for 'Sadbhav Mandap'
Under the Urban Development sector, the projects to be inaugurated during PM Modi's visit include the 'Jan Seva Sachivalaya' (Public Service Secretariat) in Lumsey; the 'Civil Service Officers' Institute' in Gangtok; housing initiatives under the 'Sikkim Urban Poor Housing Scheme'; and housing facilities for police personnel. The foundation stone for a 'Sadbhav Mandap' (Harmony Pavilion) will also be laid at MG Marg.
Gifts of Several Environment-Related Projects
Environmental initiatives include laying the foundation stone for the renovation project of the sewerage system in Singtam and inaugurating the 'Rani Chu River Pollution Abatement Scheme'. In the tourism sector, the Prime Minister will inaugurate the redevelopment of the 'Ridge Precinct' in Gangtok; eco-tourism and pilgrimage-related infrastructure in Dodak; facilities related to the Kailash Mansarovar Yatra; and a 'Yatri Niwas' (Pilgrim Guest House) at 'Krishna Pranami Mangaldham'.
Laying the Foundation Stone for an 'Eco-Pilgrimage Complex'
Additionally, the foundation stone for an 'Eco-Pilgrimage Complex' will be laid in Silnon. Furthermore, PM Modi will inaugurate the 'Sikkim IFFCO Processing Plant', which aims to boost agro-processing and enhance farmers' income. Additionally, the PM will also inaugurate indoor cricket facilities at Mining in Pakyong district.
