MS Dhoni Returns as CSK Captain Mid-Season After Ruturaj Gaikwad Injury Blow

New Delhi: New Delhi: Five-time IPL champions Chennai Super Kings have suffered a major setback in the middle of the 18th season. The team's regular captain Rituraj Gaikwad is out of the entire season due to an elbow injury. In such a situation, now veteran Mahendra Singh Dhoni will captain the team. There was doubt about Rituraj Gaikwad in the match against Punjab Kings that he would not be able to play, but at the last moment he was declared fit and he came on the field for the toss, but his injury resurfaced in the match due to which he will not be able to play for CSK this season.

Let us tell you that under the captaincy of Mahendra Singh Dhoni, the Chennai Super Kings team has won the IPL title five times. This will be the second time when Dhoni has to lead the team in the middle of the season after leaving the captaincy. Earlier this happened in IPL 2022 as well. Dhoni left the captaincy of CSK after IPL 2021. After this Ravindra Jadeja got the command, but the performance of the team under his leadership was very disappointing, due to which he left the captaincy in the middle. In such a situation, Dhoni again took over the captaincy of the team in the middle.

CSK is in bad shape in IPL 2025

On the other hand, if we talk about Chennai Super Kings in the Indian Premier League 2025, then its condition is bad. The CSK team has played a total of five matches so far this season. Out of this, it has lost four consecutive matches. CSK defeated Mumbai Indians in their first match of the season. Since this victory, the CSK team has deviated from its rhythm. A big reason behind the team's four consecutive defeats is that its batting has been a complete flop this season.

This is the reason that after losing four consecutive matches, the team has slipped to the 9th position with just 2 points. CSK's sixth match this season will be played against Kolkata Knight Riders at their home ground on April 11. In such a situation, the team will try to break its losing streak under Dhoni's captaincy and return to the winning track.
