Nationwide Mock Drill: What to do and avoid during Wednesday’s Army exercise

Mock Drill Dos and Don'ts: After the Pahalgam terror attack, amid the fears of war with Pakistan, the Indian Army is currently preparing to answer Shahbaz Sharif and Asim Munir on a large scale. Everyone will soon know when and how deadly India's attack will be. Meanwhile, tomorrow i.e. on Wednesday, mock drill will be conducted across the country on a large scale. An advisory has been issued regarding what people should do and what not to do during this time. This mock drill will be held tomorrow in 244 districts of the states and union territories of the country from Delhi to Uttar Pradesh, Haryana to Punjab, Bihar to West Bengal and Mumbai to Chennai. It will start at 4 pm tomorrow and can last for at least 5 hours. Let us tell you about them in detail.

What to do and what not to do?

Stay calm and avoid rumors:

  • * Do not panic: Understand the seriousness of the situation, but stay calm. Panic increases the possibility of taking wrong decisions.

  • * Trust official information: Trust only the official information issued by the government and the district administration. Do not pay attention to rumors coming from social media or other unconfirmed sources and do not spread them.

  • * Listen to the news carefully: Keep getting the latest and verified information through radio, television or official online portals.

Take shelter in safe places:

  • * Stay indoors: Stay inside your homes unless asked to come out by the administration. Stay away from windows and doors.

  • * Identify bunkers or safe places: If a bunker or strong underground place is available near you, take shelter there if needed.

  • * Use an inner room: If a bunker is not available, stay in an inner room of the house, which has less contact with external walls and windows. Sit on the floor and stay away from the walls.

Keep the essential supplies ready:

  • * Make an emergency kit: Prepare an emergency kit that contains the following:

  • * Water bottles (per person for at least three days)

  • * Dry food (biscuits, cereals, canned food, etc.)

  • * First aid kit (bandages, antiseptic, pain relievers, etc.)

  • * Battery-powered radio and extra batteries

  • * Flashlight and extra batteries

  • * Whistle

  • * Knife

  • * Matchbox or lighter (in a secure compartment)

  • * Cash (small notes)

  • * Important documents (copies of identity card, medical records, etc. – in a waterproof bag)

  • * Blankets or warm clothes

  • * Sanitizer and mask

  • * Stock up on food and water: Stock up on enough food and water for a few days.

  • * Medicines: If you take any regular medicines, make sure to have adequate stock of them.

Precautions regarding electricity and gas:

  • * Switch off electrical appliances: If there is a possibility of bombing or other threats, turn off all electrical appliances.

  • * Turn off the gas connection: If you feel a gas leak or feel danger, turn off the main gas valve.

Safety and alertness:

  • * Report suspicious activities: If you see any suspicious person or activity, immediately inform the local police or administration.

  • * Stay away from unfamiliar objects: Do not touch any unclaimed object. Report it immediately to the security agencies.

  • * Keep the lights dim at night: If there is a blackout in your area, use dim lights in the houses so that there is less visibility from outside. Put curtains or thick cloth on the windows.

Cooperate with neighbors and community:

  • * Help your neighbors: Especially take care of the elderly, children and needy people and help them.

  • * Participate in community efforts: If community efforts are being made for safety or assistance in your area, actively participate in them.

Avoid travel:

  • * Do not make non-essential travel: Avoid traveling unless very necessary. Crowds and dangers may increase on the roads.

  • * Take precautions if you have to travel: If travel is unavoidable, know your route, use safe routes and be cautious.

Remember: War is an extremely serious situation. Only patience, restraint and awareness can help keep you and your loved ones safe. Follow the instructions issued by the administration and cooperate with each other.
