    Terrorists disguised in army and police uniforms opened fire on tourists in Pahalgam, killing 26. High alert issued across Jammu and Kashmir; foreign nationals feared among dead.

    Pahalgam Terror Attack: 26 Tourists Killed by Militants Disguised in Uniforms, High Alert in J&K

    A major terrorist attack took place on tourists in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir on Tuesday afternoon, in which more than 20 people are feared dead, which may include foreign tourists as well. Terrorists dressed in army and police uniforms opened indiscriminate firing.


    New Delhi: A major terror attack took place on Tuesday afternoon in Pahalgam, a famous tourist place in Jammu and Kashmir. Here terrorists opened indiscriminate firing on tourists. The number of terrorists is said to be three to four who were in uniforms like army and police. All had AK-47 and other weapons. Till the time of writing the news by Jammu and Kashmir Police, 26 people have died. These may also include foreign tourists.


    High alert issued in Jammu and Kashmir

    Officials said that immediately after the attack, high alert has been issued in entire Jammu and Kashmir. Union Home Minister Amit Shah held a meeting with Union Home Secretary, IB Chief, CRPF and BSF DG, top Army officials through video conferencing in Delhi. Immediately after this high level meeting, Home Minister Amit Shah left for Jammu and Kashmir. Apart from him, chiefs of all other security forces and other top officials are also reaching the spot. Sources say that in the meeting between Home Ministry, Army, BSF, CRPF and IB officials, it has been asked to give a befitting reply to this terrorist attack.



    The entire area has been cordoned off from 15 main points. Search dogs, drones and helicopters are being used to search for terrorists. Jammu and Kashmir Police along with CRPF, BSF and Army have started a large-scale search operation in the entire area.


    TRF took responsibility for the attack


    Jammu and Kashmir Police officials say that the Pakistan-backed terrorist group Lashkar-e-Taiba's front terror group 'The Resistance Front' i.e. TRF has taken responsibility for this attack. But investigation is being done whether TRF or Lashkar or someone else is behind this. TRF has also written in its one-page message that non-local people are being settled in Jammu and Kashmir. Similar violence will be done against outsiders who try to settle here illegally.


    A Jammu and Kashmir Police official said that the place where this attack took place. There is no road. One can go there only on foot and mules. The injured have been admitted to the hospital. The attack took place at a high altitude near the Baisaran valley in Pahalgam in Anantnag district of South Kashmir.


    Attack in Baisaran area

    This terrorist attack on tourists took place at around 3 pm on Tuesday in the Baisaran area, also known as Mini Switzerland. It is being told that the terrorists came down from the mountain of Baisaran valley and started firing indiscriminately at the tourists riding horses there. They were in army uniform. Some local people and horses were also shot in the attack. Sources say that the woman who lost her husband in the attack claims that the terrorists shot after asking about their religion. This attack seems to have been carried out after careful consideration before the holy Amarnath Yatra started on July 3. Agencies believe that the area was reconnoitered before the attack. The terrorists ensured how much force was deployed there. Then they targeted people after seeing the opportunity.
