Actor Rajpal Yadav is in the news after his name surfaced in a check-bounce case. He has been going through a difficult time due to legal and financial issues and was asked to surrender in Tihar Jail in connection with a check-bounce case of approximately 25 lakh rupees. He finally surrendered to officers. According to a recent report, the actor gave an emotional statement just before surrendering to authorities.
According to NewsX, Rajpal Yadav spoke about the situation, saying, "Sir, what should I do? I have no money. I don't see any other solution... Sir, we're all alone here. I have to deal with this crisis myself."
What is the check-bounce case?
For those unfamiliar with the case, this legal battle began in 2010, when Rajpal Yadav took a loan of ₹5 crore from Murli Projects Private Limited for his film "Aata Pata Lapata." The film flopped at the box office, leaving Rajpal Yadav facing severe financial hardship and difficulty repaying the loan.
Rajpal Yadav and his wife sentenced
As a result, several checks issued by the actor bounced, leading to legal action. In April 2018, a magistrate court found Rajpal Yadav and his wife guilty under Section 138 of the IPC and sentenced them to six months in prison. Although the actor challenged the verdict and sought relief through several appeals, the case dragged on for years, and the outstanding amount grew to approximately ₹9 crore.
Court Orders Surrender
During this period, Rajpal Yadav managed to repay some of the loan, including ₹7.5 million, which he paid in 2025. However, repeated delays and missed deadlines led the court to question his motives, noting his "lack of seriousness" in resolving the case. On February 4, 2026, Justice Swaran Kanta Sharma rejected the actor's final request for a week's extension to arrange the money. The court clarified that repeated leniency cannot be shown regardless of fame and directed Rajpal Yadav to surrender without delay.
