    Shubman Gill Out of Duleep Trophy With Viral Fever; Captain Replaced, Asia Cup Focus

    After developing a sudden viral fever, Shubman Gill will miss the Duleep Trophy and skip captaincy for North Zone, but will report for Asia Cup training camp after recovery.

    Shubman Gill Out of Duleep Trophy With Viral Fever; Captain Replaced, Asia Cup Focus

    New Delhi: Indian Test team captain Shubman Gill was recently selected in India's Asia Cup team. Shubman Gill is the vice-captain of this team. But even before this, a bad news came about Shubman Gill that his health is not well. Shubman has been out of the Duleep Trophy and he is now recovering before the Asia Cup.

    Shubman Gill will not play the Duleep Trophy. He is ill but will recover soon. Arshdeep Singh and Harshit Rana will also play some matches of the Duleep Trophy and then go to UAE for the Asia Cup. India will play its first match in the Asia Cup against UAE. After this there will be a match against Pakistan. Shubman Gill was made the captain of the North Zone team in the Duleep Trophy. But Gill will no longer be able to play in this tournament. He has got viral fever.


    Who became the captain in place of Shubman Gill?


    According to TOI, Shubman Gill is now recovering and will start practice soon. His blood test has not revealed any major problem. It is expected that he will recover fully soon. After Shubman Gill is out of the Duleep Trophy, Ankit Kumar of Haryana will captain the North Zone team. Ankit was earlier the vice-captain of the team. North Zone's first match will be with East Zone.


    Has to be vice-captain in Asia Cup


    Shubman Gill has been made the vice-captain for Asia Cup 2025. He will lead the team along with Suryakumar Yadav. The Asia Cup will be played in Dubai and Abu Dhabi from September 9 to September 28. Gill played his last T20I match on 30 July 2024 against Sri Lanka at Pallekele. He was also the vice-captain of the team in that match.


    Jasprit Bumrah and Jitesh Sharma have also been included in the 15-member squad for the Asia Cup. Jitesh played the last T20I match in January 2024. Apart from Gill, there are two more players in the North Zone team who will play in the Asia Cup. Arshdeep Singh and Harshit Rana can also play in the opening match of the Duleep Trophy. After this they will leave for UAE for the Asia Cup.
