Telangana Tunnel Collapse: Rescuing eight people trapped inside for the last 18 hours due to the collapse of the tunnel during Telangana's Srisailam Tunnel Canal Tunnel (SLBC) project is proving to be a big challenge. This is because the tunnel where the workers are trapped is also filled with water. The rescue team will have to remove the water coming from the Krishna river before saving the lives of the workers. This tunnel is being built to carry this water. Water was leaking from the hills above in the tunnel under construction for the last five years. This roof has now collapsed, making the situation more difficult.
According to the Indian Express report, in the initial phase of the rescue, water is being removed from the tunnel with the help of one powerful pump of 100 horsepower and another of 70 horsepower. Once the water is removed, the rescue team plans to use conveyor belts to reach a distance of about 9 kilometers inside the tunnel. Drones will be deployed to cover the rest of the area and ensure the safety of the rescue workers. It is estimated that eight workers are trapped beyond the 13.5-kilometer mark inside the tunnel, which has a diameter of 9.5 feet.
Drilling from above is extremely difficult
Drilling from above to reach the trapped workers is extremely difficult. This is because there is a presence of thick rock sheets above the tunnel structure, which makes drilling almost impossible in a short time. Apart from this, collapse at two different places inside the tunnel has raised concerns about its entire status. Engineering teams are fully assessing the situation. It is being told that the tunnel collapsed for the first time when there were 50 people inside it. Immediately 42 people were retreating, but about 150 meters away, a part of the tunnel collapsed for the second time, and eight workers got trapped there. It is believed that these eight workers are trapped in an area of 15 meters between the rock and the tunnel boring machine inside the tunnel.
