“Trusted Too Much… Gone Too Soon”: Bumrah’s Yorker Stuns Joe Root in Leeds Test

Leeds: Former captain of England cricket team and experienced batsman Joe Root's name comes among the best Test batsmen in the world at present. There is no doubt that Root's class is different. He has scored a lot of runs and has troubled India not once but many times. This time when India is touring England, Joe Root was the biggest challenge for them too. England had a lot of expectations from this player. They felt that Joe Root would rain down heavily on India in the first Test itself. But, we did not see anything like this in the first innings of the Leeds Test. Joe Root was dealt with in a jiffy by India's Jasprit Bumrah.

This is how Bumrah got Root out

Actually, Jasprit Bumrah was bowling the 47th over of England's innings. Joe Root was on strike on the third ball of his over. Bumrah bowled a good length outside off delivery to Root. Root wanted to play it towards deep third. But, he could not time the ball. He got an outside edge and the ball went into the hands of Karun Nair at first slip. Root was out after scoring 28 runs.

Joe Root's Test record against India in England

Joe Root's home record against India has been tremendous. He has played 15 Tests against India in England before the Leeds Test, in which he has scored 1574 runs in 25 innings, batting at an average of 74.95. Root has scored 7 centuries and 5 half-centuries against India in England.

Joe Root vs Jasprit Bumrah: An exciting contest in Test cricket

Whenever Joe Root and Jasprit Bumrah, two stalwarts of modern Test cricket, face each other, cricket lovers get to see an exciting contest. While Root is known for his brilliant batting, Bumrah remains a threat to the batsmen with his fast pace and accurate yorkers. The rivalry between these two is also clearly visible in the statistics.

In 25 innings so far, Bumrah has bowled a total of 570 balls to Root, on which Root has scored 290 runs. These figures show that Root's run-scoring rate against Bumrah is around 29 runs per 100 balls, which is a respectable figure in Test cricket, especially when you are facing a world-class bowler like Bumrah. However, the most interesting statistic is that Bumrah has dismissed Root 10 times. This shows that Bumrah has maintained his success rate against Root and has sent him to the pavilion regularly. Root's average against Bumrah is 29.00.

Why Joe Root's dismissal is a big success for India

This stat shows Bumrah's dominance over Root, as only Pat Cummins (11 times) has dismissed Root more times than Bumrah in Test cricket, while Josh Hazlewood has also dismissed Root 10 times. This puts Bumrah in the category of select bowlers who have dismissed a legendary batsman like Root so many times.

This contest is not just a game of statistics, but it also symbolizes the mental and technical battle that takes place on the field. Root challenges Bumrah with his concentration and different shots, while Bumrah tries to outwit Root with his speed, swing and variety.
