New Delhi: The Government of India on Monday appointed IFS Nidhi Tiwari as the private secretary of Prime Minister Narendra Modi with immediate effect. According to the order of the Department of Personnel and Training (DoPT), the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet approved Tiwari's appointment. IFS officer Nidhi Tiwari is currently working as Deputy Secretary in the Prime Minister's Office (PMO). The notification said that she will perform the role of private secretary at level 12 of the pay matrix on a co-terminus basis or until further orders, whichever is earlier.
Who is Nidhi Tiwari?
Nidhi Tiwari, a 2014 batch Indian Foreign Service (IFS) officer, has been serving as Deputy Secretary in the Prime Minister's Office (PMO) since January 6, 2023, after joining as Under Secretary in 2022. Tiwari hails from Mahmoorganj in Varanasi, which has been Prime Minister Narendra Modi's Lok Sabha constituency since 2014. She had secured 96th rank in the civil services exam in 2013. Before clearing the UPSC, she worked as Assistant Commissioner (Commercial Tax) in Varanasi while preparing for the exam.

Before joining the PMO, Tiwari was employed in the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA), where she worked in the Disarmament and International Security Affairs Division. Her expertise in international relations later gave her an opportunity to play a key role in the PMO, especially in the 'Foreign and Security' vertical, where she reported directly to National Security Advisor (NSA) Ajit Doval.
He handled responsibilities related to the state of Rajasthan as well as important areas like foreign affairs, atomic energy and security matters. His deep involvement in foreign policy helped him play a key role during India's G20 presidency.
