    Yogi govt's 'Operation Clean' targets illegal madrasas, tombs near Nepal border

    In a major drive called 'Operation Clean', the Yogi government has intensified action against illegal madrasas, religious sites and encroachments along the Uttar Pradesh–Nepal border.

    Yogi govt's 'Operation Clean' targets illegal madrasas, tombs near Nepal border

    Lucknow: Yogi government of Uttar Pradesh has launched 'Operation Clean' in the districts bordering Nepal since April. In this, strong action is going on against illegal occupation and religious institutions running without recognition. In about a week, a special campaign is being run by the administration in Pilibhit, Shravasti, Balrampur, Siddharthnagar and Maharajganj of UP. In this, 33 illegal religious places and madrasas have been found in Maharajganj so far, while 21 illegal religious places and madrasas have been found in Siddharthnagar. At the same time, the most action has been taken in Shravasti district. Here 68 illegal madrasas have been sealed, while eviction action has been taken against 164. Apart from these, an illegal religious place has also been found in Pilibhit. The administration has issued notices to the names of 6 people involved in this.


    In fact, many people have illegally occupied the valuable land of the border for a long time, which the government has now launched a campaign to free. The Yogi government has clarified that any kind of illegal occupation, illegal operation of religious or educational institutions within 10 km radius of the Nepal border will not be tolerated. The administration has been instructed to remove the identified encroachments quickly and do regular monitoring.


    Campaign between 25 and 27 April


    • Government land was freed from a total of 89 illegal occupants on government land on the border in Nanpara tehsil of Bahraich.


    • Action taken against 17 unrecognized madrasas in Shravasti (7 closed in Jamunaha and 10 closed in Bhinga)


    • Action also taken in 119 cases of temporary and permanent illegal encroachments in 0-15 km area adjacent to Indo-Nepal border


    • Mosques and madrasas found at 5 places within 10 km of Nepal border in Naugarh tehsil of Siddharthnagar. Investigation ordered


    • Whereas illegal construction identified at 6 places in Shohratgarh tehsil.


    • In Maharajganj district, illegal encroachment on government land was found at 3, 10 and 6 places respectively in Farenda, Nautanwa and Nichlaul tehsils.


    • A total of 7 illegal encroachments were found in Balrampur. These include 5 illegal encroachments in Balrampur tehsil and 2 in Tulsipur. 2 illegal encroachers removed the encroachment themselves, action is going on against the rest.


    28 April

    Action taken against 6 illegal occupants in Bahraich, 8 illegal encroachments were freed in Shravasti apart from 12 illegal madrasas

    12 illegal constructions were identified in Siddharthnagar and one illegal madrasa was demolished in Maharajganj

    Search for illegal constructions went on throughout the day in Lakhimpur Kheri, not a single illegal construction was found


    29 April

    A total of 117 encroachments have been removed so far in Tehsil Nanpara and Mihinpurwa in Bahraich. A madrasa “Darul Uloom Azizia Hadiqatul Noman” was sealed in Motipur area.

    20 madrasas were closed in Balrampur district after the District Minority Welfare Department did not find the papers during the investigation. Notice was also issued to two other madrasas.

    3 mosques and 14 madrasas were found to be illegal in Siddharthnagar. Preparations for legal action started.

    A total of 29 illegal encroachments were identified in Nautanwa, Farenda and Nichlaul of Maharajganj.

    In Shravasti, 33 madrasas have been sealed and one mosque has been removed. Illegal construction was demolished in village Bharatharaushangarh.



    30 April

    Four madrasas were sealed in Shravasti. So far, 36 illegal madrasas have been sealed. Whereas, a total of 131 illegal encroachments have also been demolished.


    In Pilibhit too, a special campaign was launched to remove illegal encroachment on government land within 10 kilometers from the Nepal border.


    So far, action has been taken against 13 illegal madrasas and mosques in Nautanwa tehsil of Maharajganj. At the same time, action was taken against 6 illegal encroachments in Nichlaul tehsil and 14 in Farenda.


    In Lakhimpur Kheri, demolition action was taken on illegal mosque and Idgah in Krishnanagar and Chandan Chowki respectively in Tehsil Palia.


    A total of 13 illegal encroachments were identified in Balrampur and action was taken on 3. Idgah is built at one place, action is being taken on it. A total of 20 substandard madrasas have been closed. Notice has been given to 2 madrasas.


    In Bahraich, 5 illegal encroachments each were removed in Tehsil Nanpara and Tehsil Mihinpurwa on Wednesday. A total of 127 illegal constructions have been demolished. One madrasa was sealed.


    Action has been taken against a total of 17 illegal encroachments in Siddharthnagar. This includes 3 mosques and 4 madrasas.


    May 1


    5 madrasas were sealed in Shravasti. Action was taken against a total of 41. At the same time, action was taken to evict temporary and permanent encroachments within 15 km radius of Nepal border.


    A total of 16 encroachments were identified in Balrampur and action was taken against 3.


    In Bahraich, 4 encroachments each were removed in Nanpara and Mihinpurwa on Wednesday. A total of 135 illegal constructions have been demolished so far. Out of six, encroachments were removed voluntarily by three people.


    Action continued in Pilibhit as well.


    2 May


    So far 20 madrasas have been found substandard in Balrampur, which have been closed. 2 madrasas were given a week's time to submit the records, but they could not submit the records, after which a notice has been issued to them. Three unrecognized madrasas were found in village Bhagha Kala, Bhachakhiya and Nand Mahara of Tehsil Tulsipur adjoining the border,

    Which have also been closed.


    In Bahraich, 384 encroachments were marked in the areas adjoining the border. Out of these, 143 have been removed, while the action to remove the remaining 241 encroachments is being taken by a joint team of Revenue Department and Police. So far 6 illegal madrasas have been sealed.


    A total of 21 encroachments were marked in Siddharthnagar, which include four illegal religious places and 17 illegal madrasas. Notice has been issued to 20 encroachments, while one encroachment has been removed.


    In Shravasti, 53 madrasas running without recognition have been sealed, while eviction action has been taken against 151 madrasas. Demolition action has also been taken against an illegal religious place in village Bhartha Roshangarh of Bhinga tehsil.


    In Pilibhit, 7 illegal madrasas have been marked, out of which notice action has been started against two. Apart from this, notice has been given to three out of 77 illegal religious places.

    A total of 34 illegal religious places and madrasas have been found in Nautanwa, Nichlaul and Farenda of Maharajganj. Action under 67(1) has been taken against 25 of these. Out of the remaining eight, two madrasas have been removed and closed permanently, the construction of two has been demolished, one has been freed from occupation and the land has been handed over to the village society, one has been seized, a notice has been issued to vacate one illegal religious place and one case is currently pending in the High Court.


    3 May

    A total of 33 illegal religious places and madrasas have been identified in Maharajganj. These include 19 madrasas, out of which occupation of 4 has been removed. Action has been taken against 14. One case is pending in the High Court. Action under 67(1) has been taken against 10 illegal religious places. 2 out of 4 tombs have been removed. In one, action under 67(1) has been taken, while one has been given notice by the Forest Department.


    In Siddharthnagar, a total of 21 encroachments have been identified, including four illegal religious places and 17 illegal madrasas. The district administration has issued notices to 20 encroachments, while one encroachment has been removed.


    In Balrampur, 34 illegal madrasas, religious places and shrines have been identified so far. Occupation has been removed from 6 of these. 16 madrasas have been closed and notices have been given to 12. There is an Eidgah at one place, action is underway on it.


    In Pilibhit, only one illegal religious place has been found so far. In which notices have been given to 6 people.


    In Shravasti, 68 madrasas running without recognition have been sealed, while eviction action has been taken against 164 madrasas. Apart from this, demolition action has also been taken against an illegal religious place in village Bhartha Roshangarh of Bhinga tehsil.


    4 May


    The Shravasti district administration informed that demolition action was taken against illegal and unrecognized madrasas built on government land. These include Madrasa Rizvia Gausia Uloom Khalifatpur of Jamunaha tehsil, Madrasa Darul Uloom Garib Nawaz Raza e Mustafa Imalia Karanpur, Madrasa Islamia Arabia Talimul Quran Kunda. At the same time, demolition action was also taken against Madrasa Darul Uloom Ahle Sunnat Gausa Azam Banthihawa of Bhinga tehsil, Madrasa Islamia Chintayo Garib Nawaz Alinagar of tehsil Ikouna as well as illegal Idgah Khanwapokhar.


    In Siddharthnagar, illegal encroachment was found on a total of 21 religious places up to 10 km inside the border. There are 4 mosques and 17 illegal madrasas in this. The district administration has issued notices on 19 encroachments, while encroachments of two madrasas have been removed.


    The Additional District Magistrate of Balrampur said that so far 39 illegal madrasas, religious places and shrines have been identified. Out of these, 24 have been sealed. 19 encroachments were identified on public land, out of which encroachments were removed from 7. Out of the remaining 12, notices have been issued to six, action will be taken after the completion of its period. At the same time, out of the 6 other public lands, the Forest Department will take action on four and the Public Works Department on two.


    A mosque was identified in Pilibhit on Sunday. A notice has been given to it and a reply has been sought within 15 days.


    Similarly, three illegal encroachments were identified on public land in Lakhimpur Kheri within two days. An illegal shrine was also identified on Sunday. The administration and police have taken action to remove encroachment from one mosque, one shrine and two Idgahs here. Out of these, one Idgah has also been sealed.


    In Bahraich, 158 encroachments on government land have been removed. On Sunday, encroachment was removed from an illegal Idgah in the district. Action was taken by marking encroachments at a total of 24 places. 10 madrasas have been sealed and three have been removed.
