Youth Congress protests Kuldeep Sengar bail with candle march for Unnao victim

New Delhi: The Indian Youth Congress on Saturday held a candle march in support of the Unnao rape victim and demanded justice. The Youth Congress demanded immediate judicial intervention in the matter. Led by the organization's national in-charge Manish Sharma and national president Uday Bhanu Chib, Youth Congress workers gathered near Kerala Bhavan and then marched towards Jantar Mantar, raising slogans in support of the victim.

Granting bail to Sengar is shameful

Addressing the protesters, Chib termed the bail granted to Sengar as deeply disturbing and shameful. Chib said that while a convicted rapist has received relief, the victim is still facing harassment. He said that we demand that the court take suo motu cognizance of this matter, as justice, dignity, and security are the victim's rights. He further added that when a person convicted of rape and murder and sentenced to life imprisonment is released from jail within six years, society has to hang its head in shame.

On the other hand, the CBI has challenged the decision to suspend the life sentence and grant bail to former BJP MLA Kuldeep Singh Sengar in the Unnao rape case in the Supreme Court. The central investigating agency has already filed a petition in this regard.

I will not be afraid, I have faith in the Supreme Court: Victim

Earlier on Friday, the Unnao rape victim said that she would not be intimidated by the decision to suspend Kuldeep Sengar's life sentence and that she has "complete faith" in the Supreme Court for justice in the case. The victim emphasized her right as a citizen to raise questions. She said that it is my and the public's right to ask these questions. Not every judge is like this. The victim said that granting bail to Sengar has jeopardized her family's safety and livelihood. Earlier, the Delhi High Court had granted Sengar bail after suspending his life sentence. However, Sengar will remain in jail as he is also serving a 10-year sentence in a separate case related to the custodial death of the rape victim's father.
