New Delhi: Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) National Convener Arvind Kejriwal is set to hold a second town hall in Goa on Tuesday to address concerns regarding E-20 petrol. A large number of people affected by E-20 fuel are expected to attend the event, scheduled for 3 PM at the Vivanta Banquet Hall in Miramar. Participants will share their experiences and raise their voices against E-20 petrol.
Additionally, people can share their grievances by sending messages to the WhatsApp number 7669803441. Kejriwal stated that sugar prices have surged from ₹45 to ₹70 per kilogram because sugarcane is being diverted for ethanol production. On one hand, sugar is becoming more expensive, while on the other, people's vehicles are breaking down due to E-20 fuel. This is the first government in the country that imposes decisions on the public without assessing the consequences.
During his visit to Goa, Kejriwal held a press conference on Monday, stating that E-20 petrol is damaging vehicle engines and fuel systems, while also significantly reducing mileage. Sugarcane equivalent to approximately 2.5 million tonnes of sugar has been diverted for ethanol production, causing sugar prices to rise across the country. On July 31, the price of sugar was ₹45 per kilogram, but it has now crossed the ₹70 mark—an increase of ₹25 per kilogram in just one month. This demonstrates that the Modi government is run by completely uneducated people.
Kejriwal remarked that when the central government began diverting sugarcane for ethanol, its experts should have at least calculated the resulting sugar shortage and determined where the necessary sugar would come from. Sugar has now become expensive, and people are also distressed due to adulterated petrol. The country is failing to save foreign exchange. The government had claimed that using ethanol instead of petrol would save foreign exchange, yet we are now using that very same foreign exchange to import sugar and maize. The entire nation is unhappy because of the petrol situation, and sugar prices have also risen. There has likely never been such an incompetent government in the last 75 years.
'The voice of the people will reach far and wide'
Arvind Kejriwal announced that a town hall meeting regarding the 'E20' issue would be held this Tuesday at 3 PM in this very hall in Goa. He urged everyone to attend, stating that the voice of the people would resonate far and wide. Only when we fight together will those in power be compelled to listen. He shared a WhatsApp number—7669803441—and invited people to message their grievances. We must unite to press our demands upon the government, as the Modi administration only listens when people come together to make a collective demand.
