Tamil Nadu results: Vijay’s TVK leads in early trends, counting underway

Chennai: Today marks a momentous day in Tamil Nadu politics. The counting of votes for the state's 234 Assembly constituencies commenced this morning. The massive voter turnout (85.1%) recorded on April 23rd has heightened anxiety among political heavyweights across the spectrum. This represents the highest voter turnout percentage witnessed since India's independence—a clear indication that a significant shift is brewing in the public mood.

Thalapathy Vijay's TVK Turns the Tables

Actor Vijay's newly formed party, the TVK, has taken everyone by surprise.

    Stalin Appears in 'Active Mode'

Just prior to the announcement of results, Chief Minister M.K. Stalin appeared highly active. Upon returning from a brief hiatus, he held an extended meeting with his alliance partners at 'Anna Arivalayam' in Chennai. While the DMK camp remains confident of victory, the record-breaking voter turnout has also instilled a sense of caution within their ranks. Stalin engaged in discussions regarding ground-level feedback with key leaders such as K. Selvaperunthagai and E.R. Eswaran.

Has Vijay's Entry Upset the Political Equation?

The electoral battle this time around is not confined solely to a contest between the DMK and the AIADMK. Superstar Vijay's party, 'Tamizhaga Vetri Kazhagam' (TVK), has added an intriguing dimension to the competition by contesting the elections independently. While Stalin aims to retain his hold on power, the AIADMK-BJP alliance—led by Edappadi K. Palaniswami—is striving to stage a comeback. Election Math: The Story in Numbers

To ascend to power in Tamil Nadu, any party or alliance must reach the magic figure of 118 seats.

    Exit Poll Projections

Most exit polls—such as Chanakya and Matrize—suggest that the DMK alliance could return to power (securing 120–145 seats). However, the AIADMK is also projected to secure around 100 seats. The most startling claim comes from one specific poll, which depicts actor Vijay's party emerging as the single largest party. The actual reality, however, will become clear in just a few hours.
