New Delhi: Amidst the NEET exam controversy and escalating political pressure, Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan has resigned from his post. For a long time, the opposition and protesting organizations had been demanding that accountability be fixed regarding this issue.
On Saturday, Dharmendra Pradhan himself announced his resignation via a post on the social media platform X. He stated that he had sent his resignation letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi. In his post, he said, "I am pained by the events of the last 10 days. This is not a matter of personal prestige for me. India's youth power is the country's true strength. It is my resolve not to let the nation's youth get trapped in a web of confusion."
What did Dharmendra Pradhan say in his letter?
In his letter, Dharmendra Pradhan mentioned that he has been associated with the fields of students, teachers, and education reform for over four decades. He wrote that a robust, inclusive, and visionary education system is the cornerstone of a strong nation.
Referring to the irregularities that surfaced in the NEET-UG exam, he stated that the Government of India took immediate cognizance of the matter and handed the investigation over to the CBI. Additionally, a decision was made to cancel the exam and conduct a re-examination. He noted that a decision has been taken to conduct the NEET-UG exam in Computer-Based Test (CBT) mode starting next year.
Pradhan stated that during this period, the government's priority was to ensure the smooth conduct of the exam for over 20 lakh students. He said that with the cooperation of the central government, state governments, and district administrations, the exam was successfully conducted on June 21, 2026.
'Took responsibility from day one'
He wrote, "I took responsibility for this from day one and never turned away from the situation." "It was my resolve that we would not allow the prospects of any meritorious student to be ruined by the 'exam mafia,' nor would we permit any injustice against any student."
Dharmendra Pradhan stated that the NEET-UG results declared on July 16 were satisfactory, with many talented students from underprivileged backgrounds achieving success.

However, expressing concern over the ongoing protests at Jantar Mantar and the events of the past ten days, he remarked that this is not an issue of personal prestige for him, but rather a question concerning the future of the nation's youth.
He said, "India's youth power is the country's true strength. We will not allow the nation's youth to get trapped in a web of confusion."

Expressing gratitude for Prime Minister Narendra Modi's guidance and support, he affirmed that serving the nation would remain the highest priority of his life. He reiterated his pledge to remain dedicated to Mother India, the people of Odisha, and the youth of the country in the future as well.
