Chennai: The upcoming Tamil Nadu Assembly elections could witness a fascinating contest. Reports suggest that the BJP and actor-politician Vijay's party, the Tamizhaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK), may soon join forces to contest the Assembly polls together. Negotiations between the two parties have reportedly reached their final stages. According to BJP sources, the party has offered Vijay the post of Deputy Chief Minister in the event that the alliance wins the election. Under the proposed seat-sharing arrangement, the BJP has also offered to allocate approximately 80 seats to the TVK. If this move materializes, it could significantly alter the electoral landscape in the state—a region where even marginal shifts in vote share often determine the outcome in closely contested constituencies.
However, Vijay reportedly still has his sights set on the Chief Minister's post, a point that remains a key sticking point in the ongoing negotiations. The BJP is making persistent efforts to bring actor-politician Vijay and his party under the umbrella of the National Democratic Alliance (NDA). The saffron party is utilizing various channels to establish contact with Vijay, whose party—the 'Tamizhaga Vettri Kazhagam'—has rapidly captured headlines since making its foray into active politics.
A Chief Minister from Another State is Facilitating the BJP-TVK Alliance Talks
The individual mediating the alliance discussions between the BJP and the TVK is reported to be a Deputy Chief Minister from another state. He is believed to be playing the role of an intermediary in this outreach effort. The BJP's interest in Vijay is primarily driven by the actor's massive fan base spread across Tamil Nadu. Party strategists believe that even a small fraction of this support could significantly influence the electoral results. "You are concerned about alliances, while I am concerned about the public's issues—specifically, the failure of law and order in the state and the lack of safety for women."

TVK-BJP Alliance: Set to Alter Tamil Nadu's Political Equations
According to sources, BJP leaders believe that in several constituencies across the state, a mere two percent swing in votes could be enough to tip the scales of victory. Given that the margin of victory in Tamil Nadu's electoral history has often been razor-thin, even a minor shift in vote share assumes significant political importance.
BJP Denies Talks of an Alliance
Meanwhile, TVK President Vijay has arrived in Delhi. However, former BJP State President K. Annamalai stated that the NDA does not require the support of any other party to secure victory in Tamil Nadu. He asserted that the NDA is robust and does not rely on any external party for its alliance. "The protest held on March 17 (against the DMK government) serves as proof that we are strong and united. Prime Minister Narendra Modi has already visited the state three times and is expected to make two or three more visits following the announcement of the election schedule. We are steadfastly pursuing our own path."
TVK Maintains Silence
CTR Nirmal Kumar, the Deputy General Secretary of the TVK, has urged party functionaries not to give credence to rumors and to await an official announcement from the party leadership. He stated, "These [speculations] are being circulated with the deliberate intent of diverting the public's attention away from pressing issues." In this regard, he held certain sections of the media and social media platforms responsible for propagating these rumors.
