Congress Divided on Strategy: Stick with Rahul or Embrace Tharoor’s Fresh Approach?

New Delhi: Congress, which calls itself the oldest party of the country, has once again stood at a place from where it has to decide in which direction it has to move to re-establish its old reputation. The party has one option to continue on the path of confrontational politics with BJP, which is currently happening under the leadership of Mallikarjun Kharge and guidance of Rahul Gandhi. The second option is that which has been given by party MP from Kerala and former Union Minister Shashi Tharoor.

Congress standing at the crossroads!

Tharoor has said, 'As a party we have to look towards the future, not just the past. A party whose outlook is positive, not just full of negativity. A party which can provide solutions, not just keep on sloganeering.'

Tharoor gave an option to Congress

Whatever Tharoor has said is more important because he has tried to awaken the party on the land of Gujarat, which is the land of both Gandhi and Sardar Patel. The interesting thing is that when BJP has left no stone unturned to capitalize on Patel politically, Congress has also started feeling the need to look in that direction.

According to Tharoor, 'We need to maintain the votes we have received earlier, but we have failed to win the last three elections and this resolution takes us towards that. This is a resolution in which there is a place for positive criticism, not to be limited to negativity.'

There is no change in the views of Kharge and Rahul

These views of Tharoor in the two-day Congress session are exactly opposite to the line of Congress National President Mallikarjun Kharge and Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi. Both these top leaders of Congress have continued their attack on BJP and RSS in Gujarat, where their ideology has been dominant for three decades and in the recent municipal elections, the Muslim vote bank of Congress has also split from it and started looking at BJP.

Congress is also expressing concern for Christians, Sikhs and other minorities

Under the leadership of Rahul and Kharge, Congress is trying to make the new Waqf law its weapon to continue attacking BJP and Sangh and is trying to call it against religious freedom and the Constitution. Congress alleges that after allegedly targeting Muslims, RSS and BJP will also target Christians, Sikhs and other minorities.

Nationalism vs Pseudo-Nationalism

Apart from these, the Congress has also tried to target the BJP for alleged rigging in elections and a threat to the Constitution, as well as its alleged 'divisive ideology'. The Congress claims that its nationalism unites people, while the BJP's alleged 'pseudo-nationalism' is full of hatred and prejudice.

Which path will the Congress choose?

Now the Congress party has to decide which path it resolves to follow in the future. This is even more interesting because Tharoor has been in the headlines in recent times for many of his statements, which have been seen as praising the BJP-led Modi government. Be it the diplomacy of the Prime Minister Narendra Modi government regarding the Russia-Ukraine war or the vaccine diplomacy during the Covid epidemic.
