Bengaluru: Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) has continued its winning streak in IPL 2026. In a match played at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium on Sunday, RCB defeated Chennai Super Kings (CSK) by 43 runs. This marks RCB's second consecutive victory. Conversely, this is CSK's third consecutive defeat of the season. In response to the target of 251 runs set by RCB, the entire CSK team was bowled out for 207 runs in 19.4 overs. Following the defeat, Chennai Super Kings captain Ruturaj Gaikwad appeared visibly disappointed. During the post-match presentation, he spoke candidly about the primary reasons behind his team's loss and specifically took responsibility for his own poor batting performance.
Accepts Personal Responsibility for the Defeat
Speaking about his own batting and the team's struggles, Ruturaj said, "To be honest, I was surprised myself. Sarfaraz Khan, Prashant Veer, Jamie Overton, and to some extent Shivam Dube, showed tremendous spirit and fought until the very end. I feel that if I had contributed a little better in the top order—who knows—perhaps we could have chased down this target. Therefore, the responsibility for today's defeat definitely lies with me."
Identifies Tim David as the Turning Point of the Match
The turning point of the match was the explosive batting display by RCB batsman Tim David; reflecting on this with regret, Ruturaj stated, "You are right; Anshul Kamboj had almost taken his (David's) wicket. It was unfortunate that it turned out to be a no-ball. But after receiving that lifeline, he hit shots to every corner of the ground. The way he batted—hats off to him." Poor Fielding Also Contributed to the Defeat
Ruturaj identified fielding errors—specifically the dropped catch that gave Virat Kohli a lifeline—as a major factor behind the defeat. He stated, "As you mentioned, had we taken Virat Kohli's catch right at the start of the innings, the momentum might have been on our side. Despite that, I feel the match was still within our grasp until the 13th or 14th over; however, from that point on, the momentum shifted entirely in RCB's favor, and we fell behind."
Chasing a target of 251 runs set by RCB, Chennai Super Kings got off to a poor start. Captain Ruturaj Gaikwad was dismissed after scoring a mere 7 runs. Meanwhile, Sanju Samson returned to the pavilion after making 9 runs off 5 balls. Ayush Mhatre also failed to make any significant impact with the bat, getting out after scoring just one run. Karthik Sharma disappointed with his performance for the third consecutive match, managing to score only 6 runs off 3 balls. Shivam Dube failed to capitalize on a promising start and fell victim to Abhinandan Singh after scoring 18 runs off 13 balls.
