Makhana is Just an Excuse: Can Rahul Gandhi Truly Win Over Dalits? Figures Tell Another Story

Despite Rahul Gandhi’s repeated pro-Dalit statements, Congress’s ground strategy and ticket distribution continue to underrepresent Dalits in general seats, raising questions about the party’s true intent.

Makhana is Just an Excuse: Can Rahul Gandhi Truly Win Over Dalits? Figures Tell Another Story

Patna: During the Voter Rights Yatra, Rahul Gandhi had a very intimate meeting with the farmers who cultivate Makhana in Katihar. To understand farming, he folded his trousers up to his knees and got into the water. Talked to the farmers. Got to know about their well-being. Then he gave his reaction on the social media platform - 'It is sold for thousand, two thousand rupees per kg in big cities. But the hard-working laborers get a nominal price. Who are these farmers-laborers? Extremely backward, Dalit, Bahujan. The entire hard work is of these 99 percent Bahujans and the benefit is only 1 percent.' The point is absolutely right. But is Rahul Gandhi really a supporter of the extremely backward and Dalit community?

In 2020, Congress gave 32 out of 70 seats to upper castes. In elections, leaders talk about Bahujan interests but when the time comes to do something, they refuse to do so. Like in the 2020 assembly elections, Congress contested on 70 seats. Out of these 70, it had fielded upper caste candidates on 32 seats. You talk about 'Bahujan' in your speeches but 'low caste' wins in getting tickets. If the political participation of Bahujans does not increase, then how will they get their rights. Are Bahujans only vote bank? Arouse emotions with sweet talk and take away votes. Although BJP is considered the party of upper castes. But Congress is also no less than that. In 2020, BJP gave the highest number of tickets to 50 upper castes. Congress (32) was at second place. Then why should Congress not be considered a party of upper castes? Your favourite story

    Attempt to rectify the mistake

Taking lessons from past mistakes, Rahul Gandhi is now trying to get Dalit voters on his side. He is trying to regain his lost ground by continuously visiting Bihar. In the last four tours from January to June this year, Rahul Gandhi directly communicated with the Dalit community and expressed his commitment to them. Dalits were the core voters of Congress earlier. As Congress became weaker in Bihar, its vote base started disintegrating. Rahul Gandhi is trying to unite these scattered voters. To give the message of equality and justice, he watched the film 'Phule' in Patna. During this time, many leaders of the Dalit community were also with him. This film is based on the life of the great social reformer Mahatma Jyotirao Phule. Rahul Gandhi is trying his best to create trust in the Congress among the Dalits. With this view, a Dalit leader Rajesh Ram has been appointed as the President of Bihar Congress by removing an upper caste person.

Tejashwi could not become CM due to Congress's defeat

But there is a big problem with the Congress. It forms an alliance with RJD and other parties, but the base vote of other parties is not transferred in its favor. Due to this, its strike rate falls a lot. In the 2020 elections, the Congress got a share of 70 seats but it won only 19 seats. If the Congress had performed better, Tejashwi would have become the Chief Minister in the last election itself. If it had repeated the performance of 27 seats in 2015, then the power could have been given to the Mahagathbandhan. Later, top RJD leaders said that giving 70 seats to Congress was a big mistake. It did not have winning candidates.

Congress contested 14 out of 38 reserved seats, out of which it lost 9.

There are a total of 38 reserved seats in Bihar Assembly. 36 for Scheduled Castes and 2 for Scheduled Tribes. Out of the 36 reserved seats for Scheduled Castes, Congress contested 13. It was able to win only 4 of these. That is, despite the support of RJD and CPI (ML), Congress could not get the support of the Dalit class. It had to face defeat in Sinkadara, Rajgir, Rosera, Sakra, Ramnagar, Bathnaha, Kusheshwar Sthan, Sonbarsa and Kodha. The four seats it won are Rajapakar, Rajpur, Chenari and Kutumba. State President Rajesh Ram won from Kutumba. Congress also got the ST seat of Manihari. That is, only 5 reserved seats came in Congress's account. On the other hand, RJD won 8 seats reserved for Scheduled Castes. CPI(ML) won Phulwarisharif, Agiaon and Darauli seats. BJP came out on top by winning 10 out of 38 SC/ST seats. JDU also won 8 of these seats. HAM got 3 seats. That is, by winning 21 out of 38 seats, NDA proved that it has the maximum support of Dalit community. Now Rahul Gandhi wants to change this political scenario.
