New Delhi: What could be better for a party than to have a leader who attacks the opposition and is also at the forefront in defending the party when the opportunity arises. BJP MP Nishikant Dubey can be called such an attacking defender. He becomes the shield of the party in difficult times and also does not miss any opportunity to take the opposition to task. But this time he went too far by making a statement on Supreme Court Chief Justice Justice Sanjeev Khanna.
Dubey directly targeted the Supreme Court on Saturday. He held Chief Justice Justice Sanjeev Khanna responsible for the civil war in the country. However, soon after this, the BJP distanced itself from Dubey's statement. Party president J.P. Nadda also warned Dubey to refrain from saying such things. At the same time, Nishikant Dubey said that he is a disciplined soldier of the party and will do whatever the party says. However, earlier the MP from Jharkhand had said that he has not talked to the party about this.
But Congress Rajya Sabha MP and party communication chief Jairam Ramesh said on Sunday that Nadda's words have no meaning. This is just damage control. On Dubey's statements, which were also repeated by BJP Rajya Sabha MP and former Deputy Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh Dinesh Sharma, Jairam Ramesh said that these MPs are experts in giving hate speeches. He said that these MPs are often used to attack communities, institutions and individuals.
Joined BJP after corporate job
Born in Deoghar and nephew of a Jan Sangh leader, Dubey joined the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh in the beginning. After spending some time in the corporate world, 56-year-old Dubey entered politics in 2009. Since then, he has been elected to the Lok Sabha for the fourth consecutive time from Godda in Jharkhand.
BJP's first choice
However, the Congress does not see any substance in Nadda's 'damage control'. The Congress is asking why Prime Minister Modi is silent after BJP MPs attacked the judiciary. From Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi to Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemant Soren, Dubey has often been at the forefront of targeting opposition leaders. In the last few years, Dubey has been the BJP's first choice. He starts big debates or attacks the opposition. During the debate on the Women's Reservation Bill in 2023, he was suddenly chosen as the keynote speaker. Everyone expected that the BJP would put forward one of its women MPs.
...When the shield of the BJP
In the same month, when the BJP was trying to minimize the damage caused by the derogatory comments made by its Lok Sabha MP Ramesh Bidhuri about fellow MP Danish Ali, Dubey again came forward to defend the party. He pointed out several occasions when opposition leaders had made 'inappropriate comments'. He demanded that a committee be formed to investigate the things said by other members of the House during the discussion on the Chandrayaan 3 mission. Bidhuri had made derogatory remarks during this discussion.
Dubey defended his party colleague by saying that he was provoked. A few months ago too, Dubey had targeted the Congress. The BJP MP had said that Congress leaders were talking to representatives of a foreign power during the Doklam crisis in 2017. He was referring to China. At first, Dubey's statement was removed, but later it was included again. The Congress said that this has never happened before and it is an 'extraordinary incident'.
Opened a front against Rahul Gandhi
In February this year, Dubey opened a front against Rahul Gandhi. Rahul Gandhi had created a controversy while responding to the President's address. Dubey wrote a letter to Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla demanding initiation of privilege violation proceedings against Gandhi. He alleged that Gandhi had 'shamefully distorted historical and factual facts' and 'tried to make a mockery of our country and lower the prestige of our republic'. Rahul Gandhi, while speaking on the Central government's foreign policy, had said that External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar was sent to the US 'three or four times' to get the Donald Trump administration to invite Prime Minister Narendra Modi to the country.
