New Delhi: Nitin Nabin has taken a major decision upon assuming the post of BJP President. BJP National President Nitin Nabin has appointed party leader Ram Madhav as the election in-charge, Satish Poonia and Sanjay Upadhyay as election co-in-charges for the upcoming Greater Bengaluru Corporation elections. Vinod Tawde has been appointed in-charge for the Kerala Assembly elections.
Nitin Nabin's decision regarding Ram Madhav, Satish Poonia, and Sanjay Upadhyay comes just a day after the Karnataka Election Commission announced on Monday that elections for the five city corporations under the Greater Bengaluru Authority (GBA) will be held after May 25th using ballot papers instead of EVMs. The Kerala Assembly elections are four months away. In such a situation, Nitin Navin's decision to appoint Vinod Tawde as the in-charge of the Kerala Assembly elections is considered crucial.
What will be the responsibilities?
Nevertheless, Ram Madhav will be the election in-charge, and Satish Poonia and Sanjay Upadhyay will be responsible for formulating and implementing a strategy to ensure BJP's victory in the Greater Bengaluru Authority elections. Winning the Greater Bengaluru Authority elections will be both a challenge and an opportunity for Nitin Navin.
Karnataka State Election Commission Announcement
According to the Karnataka State Election Commission, the Greater Bengaluru Municipal Corporation elections will be tentatively held after May 25, after the Class 10 and Class 11 and 12 examinations are over. This time, the GBA elections will be conducted using ballot papers.
What orders did the Supreme Court give?
Last week, the Supreme Court directed the Karnataka government and the state election body to conduct the Bengaluru local body elections by June 30. The term of the previously elected body, formerly under the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP), ended on September 10, 2020, and a government-appointed administrator has been overseeing its day-to-day affairs since then. In September 2025, Bengaluru was divided into five new municipal corporations—Central, East, West, North, and South—under the Greater Bengaluru Authority (GBA), which replaced the single Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP).
Draft Voter List Notification Released
In its draft voter list notification released on Monday, the State Election Commission (SEC) listed over 8.89 million voters in the five Greater Bengaluru Authority (GBA) city corporations, including 4.5 million men and 4.3 million women. The elections will be held at 8,044 polling stations across 369 wards. State Election Commissioner G.S. Sangreshi stated that the draft voter list has been prepared with October 1, 2025, as the qualifying date.
Over 9.7 lakh voters added to voter lists
Over 9.7 lakh voters have been added to the list compared to 2022, when the last revision was conducted for areas under the GBA (then BBMP). The data shows a 13.6% increase in female voters, an 11% increase in male voters, and an overall increase of 12.2%. Given the low base number, other categories have seen a 14% increase. According to data shared on Monday, there were approximately 79.2 lakh voters in 2022, including over 41.1 lakh men, 38 lakh women, and 1,433 others.
