New Delhi: In the Lok Sabha on Wednesday, the parties included in the India alliance including the Congress surrounded the government on the issue of national security. The opposition alleged that the government is playing with national security. Usually, the ruling party has been accusing the opposition on the issue of national security, but on Wednesday the role changed. After the walkout from the House, Congress leader Gaurav Gogoi said that the parties which seek votes in the name of national security, today they have ignored national security to give convenience to a company by keeping national security aside.
Opposition's question on Khavda project
During the Question Hour in the Lok Sabha, Congress and other opposition parties expressed dissatisfaction with the government's answer on the issue of the renewable energy plant being built in Khavda, Gujarat and walked out. Congress MP Manish Tiwari asked the government during the Question Hour whether any relaxation has been given in the national security protocol for the plant being set up in Khavda? He said that a very large renewable energy plant is being set up in Khavda (Gujarat). It is within one kilometer of the India-Pakistan border. He also asked how much concession has been given for this project.
Union Minister Prahlad Joshi answered
Union Minister Prahlad Joshi said in his reply that whenever a project is approved, the necessary licenses are taken from the Center, states and other concerned agencies. But the opposition was not satisfied with his answer. Opposition MPs demanded the minister to answer the question and came into the well shouting slogans. After which opposition parties including Congress, DMK and NCP (SP) walked out of the House.
Manish Tiwari said- this government is not sensitive
Congress leader Manish Tiwari later said in the Parliament premises that the Khavda project is within one kilometer of the India-Pakistan border, whereas as per the national security instructions, no major infrastructure project can be set up within ten kilometers of the border. He questioned whether the government has given exemption in the instructions required for national security for this project?
Tiwari said that on such a sensitive issue which is related to national security, no answer came from the government. This clearly shows that this government is not sensitive towards the national security of India.
Gaurav Gogoi said- the government did not give a satisfactory answer
Congress leader Gaurav Gogoi said that we know from media reports that this project belongs to Adani Power. He raised the question whether this company is above national security? Has it got special exemption? Has the sentiments expressed by the army been ignored for the profit of this company? Gogoi said that the government did not give any satisfactory answer.
