Taliban-Style Sharia in Bangladesh? Radical Group Vows to Enforce Islamic Rule

Dhaka: Bangladesh was till now known as a secular and Islamic country on the path of development. But Mohammad Yunus has put Bangladesh on the highway of destruction. Mufti Syed Muhammad Faizul Karim, the head of Bangladesh's radical Islamic group Jamaat 'Char Monai' has openly declared that if his party comes to power, then his aim will be to establish rule on the Taliban model in the country. That is, he is talking about implementing Sharia-based radical rule in Bangladesh. In an interview to American-Bangladeshi journalist Khaled Muhiuddin, he clearly stated that if he wins the national election, the "Islami Movement Bangladesh" will implement Sharia law and adopt the current Taliban government of Afghanistan as a governance model. Faizul Karim further said that "If we come to power, Hindus will also get rights under Sharia law. The rights of minorities will also be implemented."

He also said that the "good things" of the US, Britain and Russia that do not violate Sharia law will be implemented in Bangladesh. This statement of Faizul Karim is going to take Bangladesh on the path of destruction and is a direct attack on its secular structure, which Mohammad Yunus is already engaged in breaking. Implementation of Sharia law means that women in Bangladesh will be deprived of complete freedom and will be imprisoned in the house, like it is happening in Afghanistan under the Taliban rule.

Efforts to bring Sharia law in Bangladesh

This chaos in Bangladesh started after the fall of Sheikh Hasina's government last year. Sheikh Hasina kept Bangladesh away from stability, development and radicalism for decades, but now the radical organizations of Bangladesh are working openly. Violence is being done against Hindus. Just last week, a video of a Hindu woman being raped went viral. Islamic forces in Bangladesh, which were earlier kept in a limited circle, are now coming out openly. Organizations like 'Char Monai' are not only increasing their support base at the grassroots level through madrasas and religious institutions, but are now also dreaming of changing the government by entering electoral politics.

If the influence of Islamic extremists increases in Bangladesh and they come to power, it will not only destroy the secular identity of the country forever, but will also be a danger signal for the geopolitical stability of the entire South Asia. Bangladesh has a long border with India and the cultural and economic relations of both the countries are very deep. In such a situation, the entry of Talibani thinking can destabilize the entire region. But Mohammad Yunus' administration is silently supporting such forces. Radical organizations like Jamaat-e-Islami are working openly and the Yunus administration is supporting them.
